Jazz

I own no Coltrane on vinyl and would like to pick up some of his seminal work but there are so many different pressings out there. Any recommendations on which ones to get. Right now would be leaning towards solid value vs. high-priced audiophile pressings.
Here's your starter pack. This boxset has a great value IMO, and a bunch of this albums are essentials in his catalogue.

Not sure this has been mentioned but BBE Records will be releasing J Jazz Volume 2 and Makoto Terashita meets Harold Land - Topology in September.

J Jazz Volume 1 was excellent and I have purchased all the J Jazz Masterclass Series. Thankfully my local carries BBE releases so I usually get these around release time.

Been looking forward to these! I ordered of the BBE website a couple of weeks ago, hopefully they have updated their shipping as last time the box went missing for ages!

how are these pressings, this seems like a great box as I don't think I have any of those

Its fantastic @Enoch. I've said it before but it really is the best boxset I own. The audio quality is fab, the sleeves are thick card with quality print, the booklet which comes with it breaks down each album, and the box itself is sturdy and has a texture to it. Well worth it if you can get it at a reasonable price (I believe I paid around £70 from eBay after @Mr Moore posted the link last year sometime).

They sound pretty good to me. I don't have the equipment (or ears) to judge them on an audiophile level, but I think they're pretty solid. There's some distortion on the harsher moments of my copy of "The Avant Guarde", but it's nothing unbearable. Plus, this is my second copy (first boxset arrived with 2 copies of the same album and one missing), and that copy of The Avant Guarde didn't have that problem, so the issue is with the pressing and not with the lacquers.

Just upped a new Jazz mix over at my Mixcloud page. If you check it out, hope you dig!

"SoulSistas and SoulBruthas! Been a while. Hope everyone is good. Popping in to share a new mix with you. "Just Plain Jazz" is comprised of some, shall we say, more traditional recipes. That sort of stuff that you might listen to on the front porch while enjoying a tasty cold adult beverage on a hot Summer day. I do hope you dig, and I'll see you again soon!"
