Jazz

The CD is a really nice package and sounds good, I have the record as well and it’s not a great pressing, I actually went through 2 to get an OK set, anyways great album and one I’m happy to be able to listen to on whatever’s format.
Whoa. Just listened to La Saboteuse for the first time, and man is that some great stuff. But now I am sad to see the vinyl is sold out everywhere...damn.

I see you have Kokoroko there too. A shortie but a goodie. Not a bad press either.
It’s really great - I was initially disappointed that it wasn’t a full album that came out; however, I’ve come to really enjoy my growing collection of (mostly London scene) jazz EPs. They’re the perfect length really when you want to spin loads of different things in a short amount of time!

And they all play on each others EP so it just works fine. BTW there is a new record out there with Shabaka Hutchings, Nubya García and many others.

A3. Lord Tusk ft. Roxanne Tataei – ‘Know Ways’
B1. Kojey Radical, Shabaka Hutchings – ‘No Gangster’ (Produced by Kz)
B2. Mala, Joe Armon-Jones, Nubya Garcia – ‘Scratch & Erase’
B3. =CoN+KwAkE= – ‘Same Ol Samo’
B4. Maxwell Owin & Coby Sey – ‘Response to Michel’

Released by Lonely Table, Anja Ngozi and The Vinyl Factory, with support from the Arts Council England, the album spans genres and eras, touching on jazz, experimental electronic, post-punk, dub and ambient influences, painting a diverse picture of the UK’s expanding underground sound.

Drawing on Barbican’s major Basquiat retrospective in 2017, the project also explores themes around identity, representation and social inequality.

As such Untitled also encompasses a youth project with Ruff Sqwad Foundation, in which seven BME young people aged 12-18 were given the opportunity to visit the Tate Modern and create music in response to what they saw.

As LayFullstop says: “We’re celebrating a legend who fought with his brushes and spoke with his work. The need for his work is still as current as ever. The issues we’re attacking are still as current as ever. So it’s only logical that Basquiat is and will continue to be as current as ever.”

Ahh - not more money to spend that I don’t have. Haven’t even listened to it and I want!

Living in London has its advantages, one of which is being able to make the most of the current London jazz scene. I saw Kokoroko at a tiny venue called the Moth Club a few months ago and they were electric, such a great group and they all play off each other amazingly well.

I actually have a number of jazz gigs lined up for the rest of the year and the tickets tend to be really affordable (around £10). So far I have the following lined up:
The Comet Is Coming (twice, one at a festival and one at their solo gig0
Sons of Kemet (at Somerset House)
Children of Zeus (festival)
Oscar Jerome (festival)
Nubya Garcia (festival)
Maisha (solo gig and festival)
Joe Armon-Jones (festival)
Joel Ross (at Pizza Express Jazz)
Herbie Hancock (at the Barbican)

And on top of that im also seeing:
Beach Boys (Royal Albert Hall)
Daniel Norgren (Bush Hall)

Safe to say the rest of the year is going to be fantastic!!
