Jazz-related post...I have two tickets to see Ambrose Akinmusire with Jack DeJohnette, Gary Bartz and Tom Harrell at Lincoln Center in NYC on March 27th. I'm meant to go to a friend's bachelor party out of town instead which got booked after I bought tickets. Anybody here interested in buying the tickets off me for less than face value? Would love to get them to someone who would be interested in going. Bummed that I'm missing it myself.

I'm not sure you "need" to get these releases, but these are the ones I hope to get on RSD. Before you commit, I suggest you check out his music online because it's not for everyone. This music in particular forecasts freer jazz to come. Greats like Orenette Coleman are often credited with this shift in the mid-1960s, but it's a revelation that Giuffre's moving in this direction in the early 1960s.

And BTW, does anyone know what the "regional focus" implies for the GRAZ concert? What region?

I am 100% relying on you, good people of the jazz thread, to tell me what RSD jazz releases I need to get this year. I am uncultured swine.

I don't know if any of them are truly "needs", those days seem over for RSD. It looks like mostly live albums and outakes.

The only one I will search out is the JJ Johnson& Kai Winding - Stonebone album, because I really enjoy all those CTI albums.

The Bitches Brew outakes would be interesting, but I already have the Complete Bitches Brew CD Box Set.

Same for the Mingus Ah Um Redux as I already have the 2CD with all the bonus material. That one might be more intriguing if we knew the mastering, pressing, etc for it, as the first LP is the actual album.

Yeah I agree. I'll probably go for the Bill Evans, Parker, and Monk. Maybe the Davis but I don't actually own a copy of Bitches Brew yet, so seems odd to just get the extras...
