Jazz

Yeah I agree. I'll probably go for the Bill Evans, Parker, and Monk. Maybe the Davis but I don't actually own a copy of Bitches Brew yet, so seems odd to just get the extras...
Quantities matter as well - with Miles (6,000!!!), JJ/Kai (4,000) and Evans (3,500) - I would think you could wait until you get a chance to listen to them via your favored streaming platform before making a decision.

Can anyone tell me if this pressing is any good?

Black Saint & The Sinner Lady [Limited Blue Colored Vinyl] Charles Mingus - Black Saint & The Sinner Lady [Limited Blue Colored Vinyl] - Amazon.com Music

Dol stuff actually sound ok imo but are digitally sourced, unofficially so likely just rips from CDs and consequently pay no royalties to the artist or their estate. They are widely available bootlegs basically. If none of that bothers you though, it’ll sound fine on most standard set ups.

EDIT: if you can stretch to this one from Superior Viaduct it will undoubtedly sound better and is official.

I feel like there was an Impulse Vital Vinyl reissue last year too which were priced very nicely at the time and sounded good. I just can’t find it on amazon at the moment.

see my edit above but yes, the one you have linked will definitely outshine probably all of them. I’d personally grab the superior viaduct one I linked because it’s 33.3 so fewer record changes and will sound great for an in between price.

Yeah I'd get the S V verson if I was you . a better listening

experience for this one. Not a big fan of this Mingus though .

Jaimie Branch just canceled her show tonight. Super bummed. I messaged the venue last night and they were still on. Limiting the attendance to 80 and said there was still plenty of tickets left. From how they made it sound, it was her decision to cancel. I wonder what financial impact this kind of stuff will have on people like her? The Columbus show was cancelled as well. I had been waiting to buy her album at the show, so I guess it's off to bandcamp now for me.

I own both and the AP is a clearly better quality recording. The Viaduct is good if the 33 is important.

For Black Saint, the tracks actually break naturally which works on the 45 better than most. The music also skews (in my opinion, etc) toward more critical listening so I haven't minded.

While I'm insanely lazy... I reach for the AP when I want to listen to it 80% of the time. Though that is always when I have no kids around, etc.

Agree with this. The Superior Viaduct one is quite nice and goes on sale pretty frequently on Amazon. I think I got it for $10. If it's an album you think you'll listen to, @HuddieLedbetter is right--the AP one sounds incredible if the price difference isn't a factor.

There's a jazz festival soon which I was gonna pop along to but large events are being cancelled all over the place due to coronavirus, which everyone is understandably worried about! Just wondering what the consensus is about attending or staying away?

Went on bandcamp to buy both Jaimie Branch albums and somehow shipping for two albums from International Anthems is $21.35 to Cleveland?? And each of the two records lists shipping to US as $23.50? What is going on here? It was $4 just recently. Is this some kind of bug?

Yeah, I know. Im definitely biased, since the kind of "primitive" or "trival" spiritual jazz The Ancestors play is much more up my alley than any of his other projects.
If we're counting projects he's supported, Black Focus, La Saboteuse and Inspiration Information are up there too. I guess they are still fusiony though. I dig his more modern poppier and rockier (?) stuff too, but can see how others might not.

I need to pick up more of his stuff that I like. Trying not to buy much at the moment though.
