Jazz

If anyone was curious about Horace Tapscott following Mark de Clive-Lowe's multiple references to him during the AMA, I can't recommend this set from 1991 highly enough. Again, like the one Mark mentioned, this is CD or streaming only unfortunately but it is so, so good.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat

Has anyone here had a chance to check out the new Miles Davis- Complete Birth of The Cool vinyl? Just bought it off of Amoeba with the discount and am eagerly awaiting to get it. Just wondering how it sounds?
I know @tvham bougt one and said the album quality was on par with the current Tone Poets, if not better? However the live recording was not on a similar sonic level, well, because of the time period within which it was recorded.

Plan on grabbing one from my local either this week or next when I get paid again. All my recent impulse buys are hurting me financially, haha!
Better than the clear IMO. Im personally not a fan of any clear vinyl, it always makes the record seem cheap or low quality to me.
Feel the same way until I received the limited Live Monk issue last fall. It sounds incredible with little surface noise. Nice and thick too.

Otherwise, I agree. I hate clear most other times. Seems to come with lots of surface noise issues.
My Herritage Vol 1 has a bit of surface noise on side A, not terrible, but a tad annoying, so I asked for a replacement, but Juno has sold out so they offered me a refund if I returned it or half back (including shipping) in credit if I kept it. I'm keeping it. So I've got a handy little Juno credit note to use on something.
Mines got a little bit of surface noise on Side A as well and I’m hoping a clean will help. Side B is flawless though.
Nubya Garcia - 5 is back in stock at Mr Bongo!

I "saved on shipping" and ordered Jirō Inagaki & His Soul Media ‎– Head Rock + Cotonete & Di Melo - Atemporal :)
You are awesome!
Never change, my friend! ✌

Hold on. There’s another GoFundMe I need to contribute to. NPR ran a report on Kenny Burrell being destitute at the age of 87 due to medical bills.

I hate when I see stories of artist struggling in their later years. 99% of the time it’s because they don’t own the masters to their albums and make pennies on the dollar from royalties.

Just bought some Ryu Fukui from Amazon.de, scenery was pretty cheap, Mellow Dream not quite so much, but hopefully it's the 180g version

Probably the standard release but still great records. I recommend the others two if you're a fan.

Discovered this in the last Superfly Records newsletter. Greg Foat's The Mage is first solo album for Athens of the North featuring Jazz and Library Legends Duncan Lamont, Art Themen and Ray Russell plus Moses Boyd & Malcolm Catto.

Greg Foat’s 9th album 'The Mage' joins the dots between the past and future of British jazz. Enlisting the talents of jazz/library/soundtrack legends Duncan Lamont, Art Themen, Ray Russell and Clark Tracey to collaborate with their modern contemporaries Greg Foat, Moses Boyd and Heliocentric's drummer Malcolm Catto to create something undeniably British but outward looking and global.

A long time personal ambition for Greg was to work with Trinidadian songstress Kathy Garcia, on 'The Mage', this wish is granted as she joins him to re-imagine the deep Xian masterpiece ‘Of my Hands', 45 years after recording it as a young girl.

Greg’s compositions and arrangements showcase the old and new, downtempo folkscapes, free jazz with notes of hip-hop and soul from the young team flavouring the mix. Featuring Simon Ljungman and Friends as a male choir, Greg's EMS Synthi AKS experiments (made famous by Dr Who) the album is a testament to the versatility and pure musicality of all those involved and Greg Foat’s ability to bring artists together to record beautiful, timeless music. -

Enjoy!

Listening to this record once again and loving it more and more. Y'all are not giving enough attention to this album.
