Jazz

Rough Trade is on a roll lately, another must have exclusive - indies exclusive on crystal clear:

Nérija - Blume
nerija_blume_MockLP_roughtrade.jpg

Nérija are the septet of contemporary jazz luminaries, Nubya Garcia (tenor saxophone), Sheila Maurice-Grey (trumpet), Cassie Kinoshi (alto saxophone), Rosie Turton (trombone), Shirley Tetteh (guitar), Lizy Exell (drums) and Rio Kai (bass). Rooted in friendship, Nérija is a collective whose breakneck shifts in tempo and style rely on a deep understanding of mood, temperament and expression, a solid show of trust that extends beyond the usual bonds between musicians.

Recorded in the boat-shaped confines of London’s legendary Soup Studios and produced by Kwes, the overarching goal with Blume was to simply capture the rawness, warmth, joy and the spirit of their relationship and performance. One of the recording aims was to channel the feel of Teo Macero and Stanley Tonkel’s records with Miles Davis during his Columbia years, thinking “forward” as they did but for this band, capturing the controlled chaos and frame it with a timeless elegance.

Blume is a truly breath-taking collection of compositions that perfectly encapsulates everything Nérija; vibrant, engaging, infectious and truly current. For just over an hour, they take us on a sprawling wonderful journey, arriving at what is a majestic body of work; their personal and collective experiences and inspirations over the last half decade or so.

These women are honestly some of the best Jazz musicians in the UK right now. When they released their ST EP a while back I was so pumped, its like a supergroup. And now this!!!!

Man, Im super excited and copped the limited edition straight away. Cheers @phramenma

1200 copies is hardly limited. Mad they're popular enough to have so many floating about.

I was just saying that to describe which of the 3 options I went for.

Its a great point though and obviously just a buzz word to get people to buy out of FOMO. I've seen 'Strictly Limited' to 10,000 before which is just a joke :ROFLMAO:

Edit: I dont actually think they are that popular BTW. I would imagine the majority of their fanbase is in London, and only a small fraction of that would actually buy records, yet alone 'limited edition' versions.

Edit Edit: Also worth mentioning that the 'Limited Edition' (£21.99) is actually cheaper than the standard black (£23.99) and the non-limited crystal clear (£26.99)

I want it...but shipping :( Will wait for the standard release to show up at my local (same for Sunny Side Up compilation).

Shipping always used to be bad for Rough Trade. I noticed on this one that its only charging £3.50 which is significantly better than it used to be. Im fortunate enough to be close enough to be able to pick it up in store though. There's been a few records I have bought from them because its walking distance, but otherwise wouldn't of because of extortionate shipping.

Such bad adulting. I said no more records this month but...

I ordered the Rough Trade version. It came to £30 with shipping. But if you ordered the clear version from the Domino website then with shipping that came to about £28. So I thought I'd just go with the prettier one.

My Herritage Vol 1 has a bit of surface noise on side A, not terrible, but a tad annoying, so I asked for a replacement, but Juno has sold out so they offered me a refund if I returned it or half back (including shipping) in credit if I kept it. I'm keeping it. So I've got a handy little Juno credit note to use on something.

And I bought the lloyd Miller for £12 on Amazon prime. Because I'm also in the camp that thinks Oriental Jazz is brilliant.

I suck.
I ordered that as well. When did you get it out of interest? I ordered it yesterday after @Mr Moore posted and when I checked soon after it shot up to £40 which seemed strange. Same with the Marc Ribot, I ordered that for £9.18 and checked again to see it shot up to £28 (or around that from memory).

Just now. But I still had the page open from yesterday where it said 12 quid and I hit buy and it let me have it for that price.

Edit: just checked and yeah, the price has gone up to 40. I got lucky!

Just checked and its £40! Amazing trick there @Captainfog, I never thought of keeping the tabs open before. Going to be using that from now on while I deliberate if I want the item or not (y)
