Jazz

I ordered 4 of the titles from HMV bc I was worried Dusty Groove couldn’t have known inventory numbers as early they put the preorders up. “Unicorn” (one I didn’t order) was still available on HMV a couple days ago, but it’s gone now.
I think Unicorn is still available for preorder at DG:

I ordered from both places because of the worry that DG wouldn't be able to fulfill the order. Was going to cancel one of the orders when it got closer to release date if my orders still were valid. DG cancelled two of the four so I may end up with an extra copy of Unicorn and Midnight Sugar. Figured I could always trade or sell them later on if I ended up with duplicates.

I had the Impex “Blow Up,” and it sounds amazing. I sold it when (and only bc) these came up on HMV bc I want 33rpm versions. I’m skeptical that these 33rpm will sound “better” than the Impex in any way that I will be able to hear, and I have a pretty nice system by any sane standards.

I don’t care whether the source is digital or analog. I care whether the chain includes a proper/good original recording, mix, cut, and press. I’ve got a bunch of Pure Pleasure releases with ambiguous sourcing, and they all sound great on silent vinyl. If AS came out with AAA, KG or RKS, and QRP versions of them, I wouldn’t replace a single one.

Yea AAA doesn't bother me as much (especially when Boom Boom is involved) but I wanted these at 33 and never had the Impex ones. It'll be interesting if these get confirmed to be one steps like those Craftman 2x12" are rumored to be.

Took a photo of the back as well. They do have a 'From the master tapes' written but probably just means recorded from the master tapes. likely separate to Think?

Awesome. Wonder if it’s part of the same series then technically! Different OBI but looks the same in terms of typeface. Very excited to hear these!

@Andy any chance you could post the deadwax info for unicorn? Curious if it’s similar to that other series now…

The stars aren't stars, but there are 4 squiggle marks that I can't make out

thanks! appreciate it. the other series are DQLP and a different release number so unsure if they are related still.

The 'DQJP' seems to match up with the suffix maybe indicating a different mastering? DQJP is only on the Think & Craftsman releases.

with DQCP-5319 for the recent CD

Several years ago I bought a copy of the Miles Davis Quintet's programme from their 1960 UK tour. Fast forward a few years later and I bought a small collection of jazz programmes really cheap which included another copy. I hadn't ever looked through the second copy as I have the first for that but did so earlier and a paper clipping fell out. Really cool oddity!

Love the cover art on the miles Davis programme

Fedex finally turned up.

I still have Blow Up waiting to be shipped on another order. I do want Midnight Sugar now. I thought I would get a copy but never found it at the right price.

Very cool, are these recent represses and did I read something about Midnight sugar and Blow up? Where were they available?

I see some titles up for pre-order at JPC - about 55€ each.

There are 6 titles, including Midnight Sugar and Blow UP reissued from Craftsman. Most of pre-orders sold out a while ago but I'm hoping some are made available now they have been released. They were scheduled to be released yesterday, mine were shipped from Japan early.

I think those must the same titles on JPC, although the description is poor, the titles and release date are the same. I've ordered a copy of Midnight Sugar from them as that's the title I'm missing. Let's see if it gets fulfilled.

33RPM new AAA reissues from Craftman in Japan. They reissued the entire TBM catalogue on CD and reissued the 6 @Andy posted for now. Interesting they are 55€ from JPC if those are the right ones. They were about $45US shipped to the US from HMV for me. One shop in the US has them for $45 each too but preorders sold out most places. Guess the import price makes them more expensive (and VAT).

Can’t tell if those are the same. For some reason JPC only has two of them but listed under a different label. Don’t know what Diw records is.

@Andy @Selaws any idea where to buy BBE reissues in person? Saw this got repressed and would love to pick it up.

I’ll be in the UK this weekend/next week and London for a day or so. Maybe it won’t be in shops by then but I’d also love to pick up one or two others releases from them if they might be in stock. Any thoughts? Thanks!!

@Selaws will know better but Honest Jon's stocks BBE. they have 2 stores, the bigger one is in Portobello. But they have one at Coal Drops yard near Kings Cross station. If you are passing through there is a bar there with a great Hi Fi, Spiritland

One of the record shops in Soho will stock BBE as well.

appreciate it! I’ve been to the Soho shops before and was planning on going to that area again. Hoping they have the restock in time!
