Jazz

Looking forward to spinning a few new arrivals from Ella Records. I’ve had Hipnosis and Where on my want list for a long time and finally pulled the trigger on them. I prefer to buy JP presses without obi’s bc sellers and some buyers place a higher premium on the obi than I do, but these are what fit the bill, so . . .

I need to do an Ella or Record City order soon. I get some analysis paralysis from record city’s site sometimes haha.

Is ordering from Ella best on discogs?

I think so. When I looked at Ella’s eBay listings, it seemed like there was an overlap, with eBay prices higher, but I’m not certain of that bc I didn’t check every item or whether they were pulled from eBay after I bought. You probably will get better customer service w eBay if there are problems bc Discogs itself does nothing as far as I can tell, leaving everything to buyer/seller/Paypal. But I don’t ever expect problems when buying from Ella. Great shop/experience every time.

Fwiw, I‘m pretty sure Face Records does this — list identical items in two places and then pull one when it’s ordered from the other place, and the prices are higher on eBay.

The Craftsman ones are from the same series I think. (I might have got it wrong).
Don't think there is any connection/it's a different series. Some of those albums were in the From The Original Master Tape series but done by Think instead of Craftsman. Craftsman did two albums from that series but they were 2x45s. I haven't read anywhere that this is more from that series but I'm guessing/hoping they are a similar quality!

I might have got it from these releases. Someone has added to the same series in Cogs. If you look at the OBI on the back of the record it has 'From the Master tapes' down the side. That might just be a reference they used the master tapes & nothing to do with the series. Or maybe Think & Craftman are related.

There was a 2022 reissue of that one, and an older one under the Original Master Tapes series. Not sure if they are different, but seems barcodes are different.

I think (no pun intended) they are different. Think appears to be a subsidiary of Disk Union whereas Craftman is its own thing according to discogs. Craftman took over the TBM catalogue as far as I can tell and did every release as a CD first. They have done a handful of vinyl for TBM and other reissues so far. From what I have seen, supposedly Craftman does one steps. People seem to think that the 2x12" From The Original Master Series TBM titles that Craftman did were one steps.

how much does an album end up to be with shipping? I have Unicorn on preorder from Dusty Groove and plan to order Girl Talk and Blue city when it goes live.
It looks like it ended up being about $45 each shipped from HMV when I ordered 4 titles. I think they are all sold out now though but haven't checked in a bit,. Dusty Groove canceled a bunch of my preorders from this series. I had 4 of the 6 on preorder from them and they cancelled 2. A bit frustrating since I ordered before some other people and theirs seem to be getting fulfilled. I'm not so sure they will be getting more of Blue City in...but might be worth reaching out to them. Nearly every place I have seen is sold out now.

I have the Impex MS backordered, but own the other 2 (Misty and Blow UP). It's pretty great.
I know it doesn't matter since the Impex has pretty rave reviews, but I think I saw that the Impex is digitally sourced. That would make sense since I think KG cut it but the tapes are in Japan. Don't know if that's 100% true though...but like I said...People rave about the KG Impex cuts and we all know KG can make some great sounding records with a high quality digital source.

Good to know. Since it's part of the "super cut analogue disc" I assumed it was AAA, but it doesn't matter as you said, it sounds great to me. It also seems that some if these titles are cut by Tohru Kotetsu, so maybe it was actually done in Japan?

That's the thinking--the Three Blind Mice titles in the "From The Original Master Tapes" series (and the Craftman releases that were just done) weren't cut by KG but were cut in japan so people think those were actually AAA while the KG titles were not. The 2x12" Craftman albums from that series are apparently One Steps too.

I ordered 4 of the titles from HMV bc I was worried Dusty Groove couldn’t have known inventory numbers as early they put the preorders up. “Unicorn” (one I didn’t order) was still available on HMV a couple days ago, but it’s gone now.
