Jazz

He said they are repressing most of the jjazz comps and most of the J Jazz masterclass it seems. I’m bummed I missed out on Earth Mother as that one seems to say there’s no repress. Forgot to ask about that one specifically

I missed out on that as well. I'm hopeful they will repress it at some point.
Sounds like im in the opposite situation. I bought the J-Jazz stuff they released up until Shintaro Quintet - Evolution in 2021. I never got Vol 3 of the comp either.

I might have to revisit but I seem to remember the prices jumped up a bit so I held back and kind of 'forgot' about the series.

On a side note, I was scrolling through Instagram and saw someone post a cassette that had a re-worked image of Ronnie Scott taken from his "Ronnie Scott Blows" Tempo session.

Turns out there have been 3 volumes titled "I Had the Craziest Dream: Modern Jazz and Hard-Bop in Post War London" which takes rare tracks from British jazz and releases them as a comp. Only CD/Cassette unfortunately but what really stood out to me is that there is at least 1 track by a group that I have never even heard of "Tony Hall's Hallstars". Hall was a producer for Decca/Tempo/etc but I never knew of the group.

Yet another rabbit hole.....

The JJazz Masterclass stuff was £30 each but they gave me a bit of a discount since I bought a lot 😂😂

Ran around London today. Here’s what I picked up:

Got a few other cheap used albums too. Hit up BBE, Stranger Than Paradise, Yo Yo Records (they had the best used jazz selection by far), Tome Records, SOTU, Sister Ray and Reckless.
YoYo gets the real rare stuff, records I have only seen online. Very impressive shop.

Great haul! The Tachibana might just be my favourite from the series. Powerful stuff!

The owner of YoYo said he was a little light on jazz at the moment since they did a huge BN drop the other week and got wiped out haha. He did have a UK original pressing of the Tubby Hayes Orchestra - The Orchestra but I left that one for you 😂

The amount of stock they turn around is insane. Like he said, they do drops based on a theme (hip hop, Blue Note, Brazilian, etc). The last time they did a British jazz one they had all of the Don Rendell/Ian Carr albums in one hit....

He had the sealed reissue box set there and I was tempted…but it was £300

I had missed Vol1/2, so it will be great to fill it in and have all 3 volumes at some point.

HELP NEEDED!

Saw Bill Frisell with the missus the other night, and for the life of me I cannot place one of the songs he did...
Fortunately somebody captured video of it (not me, we were three feet from the stage).

Can ANYONE help me identify the tune in this video that starts near the 4-minute mark???

Cant help with naming it I'm afraid but it sounds great.

I cant believe how many people are talking!

Reckless Records had a copy when I last visited as well. Think it was close to £300.

I thoroughly regret selling mine.

I picked up all the titles separately for less than £20 each, I think you can still get them at that price. Why would anyone pay £300 for the box? Seems a lot when all the titles are freely available.

edit - Just looked at the Jazzman site to have a look at the Don render titles. They have the Jazz in Britain titles available. Also spotted this, with Moses Boyd, Nubya Garcia, Rosie Turton amongst others. Completely passed me by. Has anyone given its proper listen? any good?

The box was initially released as a limited set before later being released singularly, but even then I cant understand it either although I guess its nice to have a box and the booklet etc......just not £300 nice!

Ah cool, I hadn't seen the Daniel Casimir but have seen him live a few times and he is fantastic!

I also figured you could get all or most of the titles still (Dusk Fire seems OOS everywhere but I have that already) so the 300£ price tag seemed silly even though that’s the market value now. I might have to grab some others.

They are well worth getting in my opinion. Each one is different enough for it to have its own intrigue.

I have mentioned it before but its worth noting that Shades Of Blue didn't have Michael Garrick's input and as a result I think its slightly lacking compared with Dusk Fire (one hell of a follow-up!)

Yea I really love Dusk Fire and do prefer it to Shades of Blue. Those are the two I have (so far)…
