Jazz

Try Harmony of Difference if you’re a vinyl guy. Usually pick it up for under $20 and is pretty reflective of his other ‘bountiful’works. The pressing isn’t great though.

Are people here that aren't vinyl guys (and gals)? Good recommendation. I've been listening to it a lot this week on Spotify. I'll get the vinyl sometime - I've gotten too carried away with purchases lately. Vinyl and food diet starts tomorrow.

I got an email tracking alert to say a parcel arrived at my apartment earlier today. Im waiting for a few exciting jazz records so looking forward to opening it up. I also believe that Nerija's debut album (2lp set) is out this week, their EP was fantastic so looking forward to that! Norman Records just announced it as their album of the week so if you haven't already put an order in, check it out!!

Yup, just put an order for that with Fnac, it was pretty much the only french online retailer where I could find it, tbh. Even Amazon FR didn't stock the record.

Thats surprising as they have singed to Domino records for this release and they have some pretty big names on the label (hot chip, arctic monkeys, franz ferdinand, etc). Would of thought it would be widely distributed. I put the pre-order in when they announced it for the indie coloured pressing from Rough Trade, hoping they have shipped it out so I get it tomorrow.

Lots of CD's don't sound great as they are compressed to the shithouse, K W's stuff doesn't sound that great to me , not a lot of dynamic's even on the Album, but this one sounds good on CD, I've got the vinyl but it doesn't sound great on vinyl, but I listen to the cd more . For what it's worth, and it is a lovely album .And no flipping so you can put it on and get stuck in !!
I bought Kamasi Washington Heaven and Earth for that reason (and price difference) and just don’t find myself spinning it much since I hate having to boot up my PS3, change setting etc. Maybe hmmm...heading over to equipment thread now

Oh, I agree. Sound quality of the CD is fine, PS3 is just slow and annoying.

Man..I wish they would release a good pressing of La Saboteuse, actually just another run would be good. I Missed the boat first time around sadly :( :cautious:

They have just done another run of La Saboteuse. I got a copy the other week. Visually, the vinyl didn’t look great, I thought I would have to return it, but it sounds great, cracking album.

Highly questionable Top 20 list for Miles Davis from today's Guardian. I agree with the Top 3, but four 80s albums?!? Those need to be replaced with more from the 2nd Quintet and Agharta. Also, IMO Miles Smiles should be in the Top 5.

Yeah Highly suspect.

Im always weary of reading these kind of lists as they are all opinionated and im almost always going to find something I disagree on, but man theres a lot to deal with in this one.

No idea how anyone could possible place 'You're Under Arrest' on a Miles top 20 list (certainly not the no.10 spot!!). I actually listened to that album on the way into work this morning, and its a good album but its more funk/rock/pop fusion with a trumpet than jazz. In fact I would go as far as saying it sounds like the soundtrack to a cheesy 80's/90's action film. Again, thats not a bad thing just not what I would consider one of Miles' top albums by far, especially considering some of the 'bigger' tracks on it are pop covers - Michael Jacksons 'Human Nature' and Cyndi Laupers 'Time After Time'.

And to leave off 'Round About Midnight completely seems crazy to me. It was the album that formed Miles' first amazing Quintet (
John Coltrane, Philly Joe Jones, Red Garland, Paul Chambers). Coltrane was working at small clubs before Davis asked him to join the group. Im paraphrasing here but im sure Down Beat even called it "One of the most essential albums in recorded music history'.

Ok rant over.

Wow, that's a list I completely disagree with. I think I would only have 4 or 5 of those albums in my personal Miles top 20, but I must admit I'm not a fan of anything Post Bitches Brew.
