Jazz

They say otherwise, but I can't vouch for it. But I can say that every other one in this series is fantastic, and holds up very, very well to a UK OG - which are very tough to find in true mint, can be made quiet condition.

Given the value of an OG, I am quite happy to have just pre-ordered all 4 and getting my OG's ready to sell.

The value-benefit quotient at play.
I think my friend has a connection at Be With and they said in many cases in the past Simon did the transfers from the tapes and remastered then Cicely cut from that. But he was going to inquire about these.

Agree that the others in the series are great so far from the ones I have. I need to get the Be With pressing of The Awakening too since I’ve read great things about it.

Yeah, I have a feeling it is like Pure Pleasure - transfers to digital from tape done somewhere, AIR cuts.

Oh well, another audiophile serie. I am in!

Yeah, I have a great sounding Circle album, but the cover has perked badly, I don’t know that these will sound better than first presses, I think they are jumping on the band wagon, ECM generally sound pretty good, but a lot are digital recordings too. We’ll see.
Gnu High is one of my favourite ECM albums. I would be curious to see what these are priced at as it's so easy for me to get ECM OGs for cheap which sound great. The jackets have always been a weak point though and it's hard to find those albums where they aren't 'peeling'.

I wonder if Elastic Rock will have the die-cut sleeve.

I’m fortunate enough to have OG’s of Nucleus’ discography so won’t be doubling up, but would be really interested in hearing what people think of the quality of these. Seems like we are finally getting reissues of classic British jazz albums, between this and the Decca Jazz series. Great time to be a jazz fan.

I believe it does. The description on one of the albums mentioned a die cut sleeve (forget which one now without looking…)

This isn't my photo but it looks like the VMP Isaiah Collier has started arriving at people's doors (no shipping for me yet) and it looks like an impressive colour.

Sweet — waiting on my copy. I don‘t care one way or another about colored vinyl, but that looks really cool.

I had some VMP credit to get rid of with no obvious prospects, and then, just a day or three b4 my membership expired, this came up and, then a day b4 it expired, Tycho ”Dive” went on Throwback Thursday. So I got rid of the credit and barely beat the deadline for member free shipping. Now, if VMP would actually ship the stuff — it’s been more than 2 weeks, and both orders are still “pending”

So my copy of Muriel Grossman's "Birth Of The Mystery" arrived today from the US and I have to say its the most battered looking new record I have ever recieved. Just take a look at this....

Egads! Looks like it was in a sandpaper inner sleeve.

and then somebody trampled on it with dirty boots!
You mean you didn’t pay more for the bespoke @Mather variant?

I‘m on roll with Nathan Davis pickups. After getting sealed copies of Makatuka and 6th Sense it the 11th House a month or so ago, I found a minty copy of Hip Walk (Speakers Corner) from Stereo-Records.com in Japan. Total with shipping was $74, which is obviously a lot of dough, but a steal by current Discogs/eBay standards. This probably means a new AAA reissue will be announced tomorrow, so my high priced purchase will probably be your gain.

As a bonus for me, this shop also had an uber-rare Pacific NW jazz classic, Overton Berry Trio at Seattle’s Doubletree Inn. If you‘ve listened to the Wheedle’s Groove compilation from LitA, then you’ve listened to Overton Berry Trio’s cover of “Hey Jude” from this album. This one is definitely not minty, but it’s certainly playable and was also priced extremely well compared to current options on Discogs.

Fwiw, dealing with this shop ultimately was fine, but communication can be very slow. They’re willing to do business overseas, but they don’t seem too eager to do so.

Damn! Nathan Davis! That dude on ebay got back to me and said he might have a copy of 11th still but then went silent. Hip Walk is a killer record. What a good deal!

I've been playing Shabaka' solo album Afrikan Culture a few times last week and I love it. Doesn't sound like anything he has done before. Brilliant!

Not sure why it's not available in Europe.
It was digital only release and then got a bfrsd release as an exclusive. Not sure what regions it was available in.
