Sorry if already posted, but the “audiocast” of Art/Laurie Pepper’s book “Straight Life” (his memoir/biography) is on Bandcamp at “name your price” (site even says to pay nothing)

I haven’t read the book, but this “audiocast” seems like an audiobook plus bc, in addition to reading the book, there are many musical snippets and even some recordings of some of the people’s original content. For example, the narrator reads a section of Art Pepper talking about a bar scene in his youth, and then there’s the actual recording of him telling the story itself.

Trigger warning if you’re bothered by casual retellings of spousal and child abuse. Sheesh.

Its one of my favourite jazz biographies. Harrowing, makes you hate the guy at times, admire him at others, but hats off for the honesty.

If you like this I would recommend Raise Up Off Me: A Portrait of Hampton Hawes. Very similar themes and equally as chaotic of a life. He also doesn't seem to hold back.

I know the Verve reissue series does not have great QC, but this reissue is overdue:
