If you don’t already know, Summertime on that Jones/Davis record is straight fire, rivaled only by — possibly — the version on Shelly Manne & Men Vol. 1, which gave me a completely new understanding of Shelly Manne as a drummer. Really, I just love that song as a deconstructed jazz tune.

If you don’t already know, Summertime on that Jones/Davis record is straight fire, rivaled only by — possibly — the version on Shelly Manne & Men Vol. 1, which gave me a completely new understanding of Shelly Manne as a drummer. Really, I just love that song as a deconstructed jazz tune.

I love the heavy sounds record. Have an older US pressing that isn’t super clean so couldn’t resist this Japanese one.
