Polaris - Music From The Adventures Of Pete & Pete

The Adventures Of Pete & Pete is one of the greatest Television shows of all time. It’s like the perfect 90s “Kids Show”. It’s surreal and hilarious and pretty much perfect. Just look at this list of guest stars…

Also fantastic was the original music recorded by the band Polaris. The soundtrack is an exceptional Jangle Pop album completely independent of the TV Show but when mixed with the pathos and nostalgia from Pete & Pete you’re left an intoxicating elixir of pure joy.

Until tomorrow…

This is an area my collection is seriously lacking. But I'll always think of the movie Loser whenever I hear Teenage Dirtbag. I love this whole album and played it to death when it came out. Also got to see Wheatus play in the parking lot of a Six Flags back then. Great memories, although I'd probably not remember Loser if not for this song (and maybe Mena Suvari in those torn fishnets 🤘).

July 12 - By the time I get to Arizona
Play your favourite road trip album

The Decemberists - The Crane Wife

My wife and I do a lot of road trips, as we tend to vacation within our state most of the time. She often handles the DJ duties, and this was an album she played for me years ago on a northern Michigan trip when we were dating...it was new to me then, but I loved it. So this gets regular rotation for us when traveling.

Marvin Gaye - Trouble Man

We have company for the next few days, so I'll be playing my selections digitally... starting with this soundtrack gem for a movie I've never seen.

July 14 - Bastille Day - Play something connected to France or revolution

B.B. King - Signature Collection

This collection includes two bonus live tracks that were recorded in Cannes, France in 1983. This version of The Thrill Is Gone is one of my favorite live recordings. I don't know what it is, but when the band comes in towards the end of the song and kicks it up a notch I just love it! Also, it helps that jazz legends Dave Brubeck and Pat Metheny are on the track as well!
