June 2020 Record Challenge Thread (The RAFFLE continues!)

Day 5 - Marijuana & Chill

The War On Drugs - Lost In The Dream

I don’t smoke, but if I could boy would I listen to this album and chill. It’s starts off a little energetic, but once it gets into its groove it’s like fresh linen hanging on the clothesline. A summer sun kissing your forehead as you lay in the grass and watch the clouds float by.

I could listen to that guitar sound for hours. I’ve seen them twice and the bastards made me tear up twice.

Like a train in reverse down a dark road, carryin the whole load, rattlin the whole way home

Day 8 - Jazz

Charles Earland - Black Talk!

Rusty Bryant led me to Charles Earland, and any time I see Idris Muhammad on something I'm even more interested. It's a great set, albeit a little short. More Than Yesterday is such a great choice for a cover too.

Man I love this record. I was reading an interview with the author Michael Chabon one time and he recommended it.

So among others I like Roth, Robbins, Wolfe, Franzen...(as far as recent authors go)...is this a good fit for me?
Yes! Definitely. He’s more of Franzen’s era, born in the 60’s influenced by Wolfe, Robbins, and Roth, Roth especially in his Jewish identity being a big influence on his writing. In Modern Fiction my faves are Eugenides, Chabon, Franzen, and all time favorite, David Foster Wallace.
