Day 9 - Gatefold Art, while the cover can be beautiful, let’s see the art inside that Gatefold

Nas and the National Symphony Orchestra - Illmatic: Live From the Kennedy Center

Sorry for making you work for this one (hit the right arrow twice, it's the 3rd picture haha) but I've always loved this gatefold. Seeing Nas in a suit with the National Symphony Orchestra behind him is pretty sweet!

Nice! I’m on book 4. Since they’re so emotionally draining, I’ve been interspersing the Harry Potter books to kind of cleanse my palate each time 😂

My friend that recommended this reading burned out after book 4...he's not sure when he's getting back to it. I took a break between books 1 and 2 and read some fiction. I'll probably take a break after 2 and read a music bio or something vastly different. Hopefully each time I start the next I will feel recharged and ready.

I chose to go with a simpler gatefold. It's just a picture, a nice one, one Wilson staring at the mirror and the reflection looking down. It's a nice image, I like the symbolism.

Apples In Stereo - New Magnetic Wonder

In my top-25 favorite albums of all-time. Please give er' a listen if you haven't!

In an interview, Robert Schneider has described New Magnetic Wonder as an album with sensibilities between the Apples in Stereo albums Fun Trick Noisemaker and The Discovery of a World Inside the Moone, as well as a heavy influence from 1970s bands such as Electric Light Orchestra and Queen. Schneider has also admitted Smile by Brian Wilson as an early influence on the album.

Picked this up at San Diego Comic Con a few years ago. Hot Fuzz soundtrack signed by Jock. From the looks of it, he was definitely done by the time he signed his name on mine, compared to yours :)

Buena Vista Social Club - Buena Vista Social Club At Carnegie Hall (World Circuit, 2008 First Pressing)

I get goosebumps every time I hear the opening to this album. As a background, all of these musicians were once incredibly popular and successful but shortly after the Cuban Revolution all the clubs and bars were permanently closed. These musicians became forgotten and many of them gave up playing altogether. When Ry Cooder travelled to Cuba to form them into a mega group (the Buena Vista Social Club) non of the musicians had played for several years, and in fact, some of their instruments had rotted away due to neglect. The reason I get goosebumps listening to the intro is that before their formation these people had long forgotten about their previous successes and no-doubt imagined they would never perform again, yet alone to a packed out Carnegie Hall. As the musicians begin to sing the crowd erupts into cheer. Just imagining how these musicians must have felt at that reception is amazing.
