June 2020 Record Challenge Thread (The RAFFLE continues!)

Day 6 - Adrenaline Going
Rainbow - Rising
I went out for a run about 3 weeks ago and put Rising on my headphones, after about 25 minutes I was feeling pretty fucked and it was uphill all the way back. Cue Stargazer: History’s greatest track. It was like getting hit with an injection. It builds and builds and builds. Dio - awesome. Cozy - awesome. Blackmore - awesome. Killer killer killer killer.
I love it. My kids love it. Everyone should love it.

A travesty this line up of Rainbow split up. You’d think after recording history’s greatest track you’d want to do it again and again. Or maybe all the more reason to split up. Why bother. You’ve created the greatest track of all time. Rising is a GREAT album. But all the tracks suffer compared to Stargazer. Up in Heaven you have Hendrix, Bowie, Mozart etc. all patiently waiting for Blackmore to croak it so he can start pumping out Stargazer on repeat with Cozy and Dio.

Whole album is killer in fairness to Ronnie and the gang.

Ryo Fukui ~ mellow dream

A perfect way for me to begin winding down from a long day or work and study. Ryo always hits the right notes that allow me to sit back, relax and refresh. I was expecting to buy his final two albums but needed to complete the discography. Hard to rank which ones I love the most as they are all gorgeous

Wednesday (10) – Puberty – gosh parents, your music sucks, did you rebel? Play an album that takes you back to those teenage years.

Björk "Debut"

When this record got out I was 15, right in puberty. It's a wonderful album touching many topics, from wondering about the unlogic, moody and yet irresistible "Human behavior" (plus the iconic music video) , the sensuality and intimate nature of "Venus as a boy" to "Big time sensuality" with its famous line "I don't know my future after this weekend and I don't want to". Now, how could you be more rebellious than by saying that and living completely in the Here and Now? ❤️

Day 3 - Childhood Music

Dixie Chicks - Taking the Long Way

Now I dont have any actual connection to this album specifically but it's the closest thing to the type of music I remember falling in love with as a kid. Thanks to my mom, my first music loves were the female country stars of the early 2000s! Faith Hill, Reba, Shania, Martina McBride, Carrie Underwood etc.! These women made me fall in love with music and I really need to start getting that stuff on Vinyl!

Fun fact my first concert was a birthday show for a country music radio station in which Reba was the headliner. I was like 7 and For the majority of the day we were outside in the rain but right before Reba a staff member noticed us out there and invited us inside and we got seats super close to the stage!

Day 10: Teenage Years

15 year old me loved this when it came out - I originally had it on cassette as that's what I had in my car at the time.

I find it amusing that people on Twitter feel the need to tell Tom Morello to stay out of politics and stick with music.

New Found Glory - Sticks and Stones

I remember being 14 and the emo/pop punk scene starting to blow up (relatively haha) I was so into it and was constantly singing along to lines like "Though you swear that you are true, I still pick my friends over you" while my parents questioned what the hell I was listening to haha

Day 10: Teenage Rebellion
Frank Zappa / Tinseltown Rebellion
When I was in my teens, my friends and I all decided that Frank Zappa was the greatest. His music was off the wall and irreverent. I think I liked the idea of Zappa more than I enjoyed the music. As I got older I could more appreciate what he was doing musically. 35B9CAA4-3379-4BC8-A626-46B6D8603913.jpeg

Day 10 - Rebel Rebel
The Arrogant Sons of Bitches - Three Cheers for Dissapointment

Another hard one for me. I didn't ever really feel like I was rebelling against my parents with music, although, I never really tried to blast anything they didn't like in the house. That was usually in my car or on headphones with my discman. I guess the first music I got into that I knew they wouldn't like was Operation Ivy in Middle School, which I sadly still don't have a copy of. Moved from there to a few ska punk bands. I don't think I knew about ASOB until late in high school, but I haven't gotten around to getting any Less Than Jake or Catch 22/Streetlight Manifesto on vinyl.
