Saturday (27) – National Onion Day, play an album that makes you cry

Hamilton - Original Broadway Cast Recording

Sometimes it happens before the opening lyrics even kick in, sometimes I can make it as far as Satisfied, but I’ve yet to make it through the entire album without tears welling up. Not because it’s sad necessarily but for me I lose it thinking how it’s such an amazing piece of art and how Lin-Manuel is a genius.

My wife and daughter are really looking forward to watching this on Disney + - they play it regularly in my wife's car together.

I haven't heard one complete song. Maybe once it hits Disney + i'll give it a go.

Courtney Barnett - Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit

For the most part this LP is fairly chill and fun and maybe that is why the final track “Depreston” gets me in the feels every time. Barnett is a immaculate wordsmith finding all the right details. The idea of “Home” is important but when a home becomes just another house, erased of all the important moments and memories of the previous occupants that resided there is quite heartbreaking. It’s best not to dwell too much on it lest I start tearing up again...DAMN THESE ONIONS!

Would love to know what you think if you watch! I’ve seen the musical 5 times, have listened to the soundtrack countless times and have a feeling I’m spending next weekend indoors glues to Disney+

Day 27 - National Onion Day

Mount Eerie - A Crow Looked At Me

Almost unlistenably sad to begin with, this hit me hard because Phil was an artist I followed closely and cared about, and he had a daughter that was the same age at the time as my now oldest daughter, so I really imagined myself in his shoes. Many listens—plus the hindsight of his subsequent marriage to Michelle Williams (and divorce)—has somewhat diluted the material for me, but still I’ve experienced no music as sad as those first couple listens.

I listened to it once all the way through, I was glad I did but I doubt I will ever listen to it again. It was like reading a personal diary of the most painful period of a persons life. I’ll stick with The Glow, Pt. 2 & Mount Eerie thank you very much.

Yeah, totally understandable. You should check out Wind’s Poem though - I think that’s Phil’s masterpiece. There’s no “The Moon” caliber track but overall I like it better than The Glow pt 2

No doubt, It’s a good one too. Ima gonna stick with The Glow, Pt. 2. Also a big fan of It Was Hot and No Flashlight... I really like most of Phil’s discography I just can’t do A Crow Looked A Me again. It’s too personal.

Day 25 - Record Label

Paramore - After Laughter
Label: Fueled by Ramen

FBR was the first label I considered myself a fan of and I would go out of my way to listen to whoever they signed. Some standouts for me have be Paramore, Panic! At the Disco, fun., and twenty one Pilots. Havent listened to any of their new signees in a while but one I did check out a year or so ago called e^st was pretty cool
