Day 26 - Acid - Let’s go on a Psychedelic Journey

Jimi Hendrix Experience - Smash Hits

This is either spot on, or 100% inappropriate for today seeing as acid is what took Hendrix from us. Regardless, the tunes here fit the bill for a psychedelic journey for sure.

The last time I did acid the first thing we listened to was Are You Experienced and it was terrifying.

Thursday (25) – Hype up a record label that you think deserves some attention

Double Double Whammy

Great Grandpa - Four of Arrows

I don't think I've ever heard a bad album from DDW. This is one of my favorite albums from last year. Other acts on the label I like: 2nd Grade, Florist, Free Cake for Every Creature, Gabby's World, Hatchie, Lomelda, Long Beard, Quarterbacks, Told Slant, Yowler.

Day 24 - Adulting: Laura Marling - I Speak Because I Can

Seems I didn’t submit my Day 24 properly.. Short story around this one. Had a long term relationship fall apart. Rebound lady was a muso who was supposed to be just a friend, but she sung me a song off this album one night and things escalated. Learnt a lot about people and myself in the weeks and months after that. Bit of a turning point in “adulthood”.

Friday (26) – Acid - Let’s go on a Psychedelic Journey

Real Estate - Atlas

I have a confession. I fucking hate The Eagles psych rock. So I'll play it's much more palatable cousin in surf rock. This is the last album I enjoyed from a band who recently went too far into psych rock for my liking, coincidentally.

Day 26: Lysergic acid diethylamide
Radiohead - Kid A

Due to the sheer volumes of LSD I took while listening to Kid A I think the album is now cosmically attached to my soul. To this day when the first notes of of “Everything In It’s Right Place” drop It makes space/time bend and I start to melt through the floor. Acid Flashbacks are a real and wonderful phenomenon.

Day 26 - Acid Flashback

Jim Morrison and The Doors - An American Prayer

Should I have been experimenting with acid in my mid-teens? Maybe not. This story isn't meant to glorify that....but it's the acid story that came to mind for today.

Back in the 80s when I was 15 years old, a couple friends and I each took a tab of LSD 100 and rode our bikes to the mall. It was about 10 miles away, including a couple miles of a gravel road. We must have looked like hell when we got there; all dirty and sweaty and saucer-eyed. Looking in the mirror is never a good idea while tripping so I can't say for sure...but safe to say we probably looked every bit as fucked up as we were. We went record shopping, and while I don't remember the details of the excursion I know that I came home with this record and Pink Floyd Ummagumma. (which I lost long ago)

This has never gotten all that many spins over the years, it's.................fine.
