Let The Music Oracles Speak: The January Vinyl Spin Challenge Thread

... ans there Album yoko is in desperate need of a vinyl repress
Truly would be one of my white whales if this happened! I can think of very few I'd want more. I actually e-mailed the singer about it years ago..

Here's how it went:

Me:

Hey hey! Die hard fan here! Is there any way to get any albums on vinyl?

If not, will you guys ever repress?!

Thank you.

Scott

Miles:

Wed, Sep 25, 2019, 8:47 AM to me Hey Scott Sadly, no plans to repress. I like the idea that someone will find the last copy in 50 years, unmelted in an attic. Apologies and thanks for the email, Miles

So.. it's doubtful! But perhaps someday they will choose to finally press it. The others are insanely hard to find - I'm lucky I grabbed when I did.

January 10: David Bowie

One of my favorite local clubs (the Casbah) had a Bowie Birthday Bash on Monday night. The band that played focused on the Berlin trilogy, and kicked off with great versions of songs off of Low, including some of the instrumental tracks. Was really nice to hear them played live as Bowie is definitely one of the regrets that I never saw in concert.

I saw Bowie once at his last ever full show at the Hurricane festival in Germany 2004. It was a great concert bit as we only heard days after he suffered from chest pain during the show and collapsed with a heart attack backstage after the last encore. He cancelled the rest of the tour and never resumed touring only playing a handfull of songs at benefits once in a while. None of me and my friends noticed that there was anything wring with him dyring the show and it was a great set:

Rebel Rebel
Fame
Battle for Britain (The Letter)
Sister Midnight
New Killer Star
Cactus
All the Young Dudes
China Girl
Modern Love
Station to Station
The Man Who Sold the World
Changes
The Loneliest Guy
Under Pressure
Ashes to Ashes
Quicksand
I’m Afraid of Americans
„Heroes“
Encore:
Life on Mars?
Suffragette City
Ziggy Stardust

Is there even a vinyl version? Discogs finds none

Day 08: Ludwig van Beethoven

William Steinberg/Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra - Beethoven: The Nine Symphonies

I don’t have much Claasical music in my collection most of what we own is stuff my SO, a classically trained clarinetist, has picked up from the discount bins at record stores while I was spending way too much time thumbing through stacks.

Yeah it’s Endless Endless. I got it last year and just haven’t had time for reading. Once I get more time it’s on the top of my stack

And I’m assuming the first place to start after nmh is of Montreal but after that i don’t recognize any of the bands so I’m always open to suggestions:)
The Gerbils and Olivia Tremor Control are top tier for me.

Circulatory System and Elf Power are next.

The Late BP Helium is great and played with of Montreal for a while. So is Pipes You See, Pipes You Don't.

Elephant 6 Orchestra and Andrew, Scott, and Laura have some insanely good taped shows floating around but never put out an actual album.

Many others beyond these and what @scotthilk listed.

January 10: David Bowie

Still one of the best all analog titles to come out in quite some time - this was repressed for the Five Years box set. I wish all the albums got the same treatment.

Phil Ochs – Greatest Hits

20240110_120200.jpg

I love Classical music, and most especially Classical piano (Rachmaninoff and Satie in particular!) Typically I'll jump at an opportunity to put some Classical on but I've been on a bit of a Phil Ochs kick the past couple of months and, because of the song "Bach, Beethoven, Mozart and Me," this was the first thing I thought of when the card was pulled, so I'm playing it. The final studio album released during his (also too short) lifetime, this is not, despite the title, a compilation of hits. It's also the most "country" and least overtly political album he released, but his wit, humour and voice remain distinctly his. The cover image coupled with the line 50 Phil Ochs Fans Can't Be Wrong on the back crack me up every time.

Caroline Rose "Loner"
(2018 New West Records)
Decided to go with Caroline Rose after scanning through my shelves. Caroline's style seems to keep changing from album to album, going from folky music, to alternative pop, to incorporating synthesizers and to orchestral pop.
