Baby Huey - The Baby Huey Story/ The Living Legend

January 12: Patti Smith

Garbage - No Gods No Masters

I spun my vinyl copy but just now switched over to a steam to listen to the bonus tracks because they only released these on the deluxe CD version of the album. Garbage and Screaming Females do a cover of Because The Night, which would have worked for today's too since it was cowritten by Patti Smith and Bruce Springsteen.

Day 13: Bruce Springsteen
Bruce Springsteen - Tunnel Of Love

This Tunnel Of Love gets lost in the shuffle a bit but it’s another fine album in a in a brilliant career full of fine albums.

This is what I thought I would play when I saw the prompt last night, then this morning I was like “if I’m gonna piss the missus off by listening to Bruce, I might as well go for it.” She actually liked the Detroit Medley. Lol

January 9: Janis Joplin

Janis Joplin,
a legendary American singer and songwriter, played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of rock music during the 1960s. Her raw and powerful vocal style, coupled with an uninhibited and passionate stage presence, set her apart as an icon of the counterculture movement. Joplin's importance lies in her ability to break traditional gender norms in the music industry, proving that women could be just as influential and rebellious as their male counterparts. Her enduring legacy endures through her timeless hits like "Piece of My Heart" and "Mercedes Benz," as well as her impact on subsequent generations of musicians who continue to draw inspiration from her fearless and authentic approach to music.

I was thinking about Janis yesterday and then grabbed this card. The oracles speak! I am fortunate to know one of her family members, so I've always felt an extra connection to her.

Janis' voice is unmistakable. Let this card guide you today - whether you throw on some Janis herself, someone who was influenced by her, or someone who has a voice you recognize the second you hear it!

Day 9: Guy Clark - Old No.1

A fellow Texan like Janis, Guy Clark has an extremely recognizable voice. His music has a similar timelessness to it.

The cards have spoken...

Bowie was one of the best to ever do it!

Day 10: Prince - Graffiti Bridge

An Artist that is right there with Bowie on being an absolute chameleon and an innovative cultural force. I feel like an easy SAT type question would be “As David Bowie was to the 1970s, this Artist was to the 1980s and early 1990s”

Your obvious answer would be Prince.

Little Simz "Grey Area"
(2019 Age 101 Music)
I didn't want to spin The Boss directly today, so I thought what about a record that references the "boss"? This was the first one I thought about, with track 2 titled "Boss". Jives better with what I've had on the program so far today.
