March 2022 Vinyl Spin Challenge Thread - Here It Goes Again

MARCH 10
HOW'D THAT GET THERE?
This is a day for the forgotten corners of your collection that even the dust doesn't know is there. Dig deep and see if you can find something you didn't even know you had or that you don't remember buying.

I found this record recently, tucked in some other record's sleeve.
It's a promo copy from an 80's Brazilian band that's sort of rap metal? I remember my brother liking them but, he says this one is not his.
I have no idea where this came from.
Made it to the second track, really not my taste, sounds gimmicky and dated.
I also don't like Brazilian bands singing in English.

Defalla - It's fuckin' boring to death

ANGER MANAGEMENT
Play something angry! 😡

MC5 "Kick Out The Jams" (1969 Elektra; 2012 Rhino remaster)
Right now, right now, right now. It's time to.... kick out the jams motherfuckers!

Wayne Kramer just announced another tour around the MC5. The last one had Kim Thayil on guitar, this time you've got Stephen Perkins on drums, along with some other heavy hitters. Well worth seeing if it hits your town, especially as they are playing small rooms.

CHVRCHES ~ Love Is Dead

I wanted to subvert this a bit, as this album is angry to me lyrically in a few places. The most obvious is in the lyrics for Graves.

Do you really expect us to care what you're waiting for?
When you're high in your castle”
“Oh, baby
You can look away
While they're dancing on our graves”

However, there are even more subtle inferences.

“Time to kill
Was always an illusion
Time stood still
And now we never will, never will”

“I got no more time to hear what you think about me
Because all your words are so cold, so callous, so clean”

“I got no more time to hear who you think we should blame

Because all your words are so vile, so vicious, so vain”

Kraftwerk - Techno Pop

Reviews for this album aren’t great, and I get it. It definitely isn’t as good as their previous work. But I love it all the same. I’ve seen it described as “cold” and “sterile”, but those are qualities that I honestly like about it. Kraftwerk’s music just appeals to me across the board.

Sugar Ray - 14:59

Even when this first came out in 1999, this was a CD I played in the car only when I was driving passenger-less because of the immense guilt I felt. A few years ago I stood outside my local record store for Black Friday and asked the strangers I met in line, “Would you guys think less of me if I bought the Sugar Ray album?” “What? Nah!” they replied. I bought the store’s only copy and the clerk announced to the filled shop, “WE’RE ALL OUT OF SUGAR RAY NOW!!” and other customers could be heard whispering, Someone actually bought Sugar Ray? One of the strangers in front of me said, “Whoa, I thought you were kidding.” I don’t care, it’s catchy as hell.

NO SHAME DAY
Play an album in your collection that you love wholeheartedly - even if you might tell others it's just a guilty pleasure.

Duran Duran "Rio" (1982 EMI, Japanese pressing)
Rio is one of those records for me, and has been since I was 11. Thanks to @jamieanderson1968 for pointing me towards this amazing pressing of it.

I wholeheartedly disagree with the guilty pleasure bit.
This album is freaking great!

Yes. And I want this.
