Duran Duran "Rio" (1982 EMI, Japanese pressing)
Rio is one of those records for me, and has been since I was 11. Thanks to @jamieanderson1968 for pointing me towards this amazing pressing of it.

If you love early 80s records like DD, Simple Minds, OMD, I highly recommend Japanese OG pressings. When combined with that 80s dry studio style, the separation on the Japanese pressings is wonderful without beating you over the head.

ANGER MANAGEMENT
Play something angry!

Doom Session Vol. 5 - High Reeper/Hippie Death Cult

I didn't feel angry yesterday and was listening to chill music, but after losing an hour because we live in a stupid stupid world with stupid stupid bureaucracies I lost an hour of my day today. So a little angry music suits me just fine.

Sugar Ray - 14:59

View attachment 132183

Even when this first came out in 1999, this was a CD I played in the car only when I was driving passenger-less because of the immense guilt I felt. A few years ago I stood outside my local record store for Black Friday and asked the strangers I met in line, “Would you guys think less of me if I bought the Sugar Ray album?” “What? Nah!” they replied. I bought the store’s only copy and the clerk announced to the filled shop, “WE’RE ALL OUT OF SUGAR RAY NOW!!” and other customers could be heard whispering, Someone actually bought Sugar Ray? One of the strangers in front of me said, “Whoa, I thought you were kidding.” I don’t care, it’s catchy as hell.
I was about to tell you that they’re going for $12 on Discogs but looking now, they’ve gone up just a little bit

Cheers - I'll keep an eye on them at RC. Have any experience with Human League's Dare? I've been checking for that one on and off too. The bass on the Japanese Rio is tight and lush and Nick's synths just float above... the separation really does suit all the layers on there.

Funny I have been eyeing that up as well at RC. Usually not too expensive so worth the chance I think. I have also been looking for The Cars - Heartbeat City as it is supposed to be really good.

Heartbeat City also has a US Quiex I've been eyeing on and off. Then again, it's also getting repressed by MOFI. Let me know what you think if ever you pull the trigger on Dare. So far, I haven't seen one in a condition I'm happy with at RC (but I only look sporadically).

NO SHAME DAY

I have no shame or embarrassment about my love for Carly Simon. Her music is drenched in nostalgia for me; she was my mom's very favorite artist. I have four records of hers that were in my mom's collection. In fact, while I was spinning this, I got out the Pledge and cleaned our coffee table...that distinct lemony scent reeeally brought back the 70s for me.

Themes like this are difficult, as I have no belief in "guilty pleasure". I like what I like and don't really care if others don't like it - or if it was reviewed poorly.

This one seems to be on the bottom of most Slipknot album rankings. I like it, but I'm also not a die-hard Slipknot fan.

For a "bad" album, it still goes for decent money. I lucked out and found this used at my local store a few years ago (2019) for no more than 40 bucks...it was probably closer to $30.

But in my heart? Nah, that's a lot of CD spins and MP3 plays in high school. Some sentimentality there.

I tried going back to Steve Miller again which was another one in that category and it didn't work as well for me, this one does

I am so glad I got my copy at record day too! I am glad someone else loves this album too!

A friend of mine became my friend because of this album. I think this is my favorite album by them. I am by no means an overall fan of this band. HOWEVER, whole heartedly enjoy this album from beginning to end.

These are the standout cuts I like MINUS THE SINGLES:
Louder Than Hell
Tonight (We Need a Lover)
Use It Or Lose It

Day 13: No shame

Spoon - Gimme Fiction

Don't think I really have any guilty pleasures in my record collection. But I have no shame in doing my part to further the #CDrevival, which most people (possibly rightly) think is stupid, so here's a CD.

I think that price tag shows exactly why a CD revival is a pretty good idea!

Like so many have said already, I don't really feel guilty about anything in my collection but this one has certainly elicited the most eye rolls, raised eyebrows and groans - and that's just from my wife! But I don't care, my love for JCS is unabashed and eternal. I've made a deal with her that I won't actively seek out and order different versions of it that I don't already have, but any found in the wild are instacop. Currently, there are five versions on the shelf but this one is ever my favourite.

When I was 19 and working at HMV my boss took me with him to go record shopping at a store across town once and bought me a copy of this under the promise that I would quit playing the CD in the back at work! :ROFLMAO:
