Day 8. An album that makes you think of flowers ..

So when it comes to flowers the good lady wife says bigger is always better (glad she doesn’t say that about everything..) ..so what’s bigger than a triple live in Japan album from the 70’s...

Ladies and Gents I give you ...

Santana “Lotus” 1974

Description
Nelumbo is a genus of aquatic plants with large, showy flowers. Members are commonly called lotus, though "lotus" is a name also applied to various other plants and plant groups, including the unrelated genus Lotus.Wikipedia

I have always thought I would enjoy The Men as a band but had never really gave em a chance until this past year and I was right! They are right up my alley and have been drawn to their different interpretations on ramshackled Post-Hardcore/Americana/Bar Band goodness ever since. Every album is a bit of a different vibe but all of em are pretty great. This one is probably their most accessible of their prolific initial run of albums.

Day 7 - Latest Purchase

The Sorcerers - In Search Of The Lost City Of The Monkey God

This instrumental album is like a funky, jazzy journey through the jungle. Created with the premise that it’s the lost, and recently found, soundtrack to a movie of the same name. The jacket has ring-wear printed on and, although the album released in 2020, there is no mention of the release year anywhere on the sleeve or labels to keep with the mystique and anachronism of the record.

I discovered it, myself, one night when I couldn’t sleep and was doing one of my 2 am Bandcamp deep-dives. I chose to listen based solely on the name of the album. When the first track got about a minute in I remember laying in bed thinking, “please no singing. Just let this song groove and be what it is”. Little did I know the entire album would be no singing, all groove. And absolutely phenomenal.

the only thing not phenomenal about this whole affair is how many times I can misspell ‘phenomenal’ and still not learn the right way. Thank you, autocorrect.

Emilíana Torrini - Rarities (2010)

Oh man, I had to think this one a lot...
This is full of remixes that i don't really care about, some of them are cool though. But the gems are the b sides. It's a 4LP album, but I usually stay in the first vinyl.

Day 8 - Flowers

playing it on the nose. Track 3 is “Dandelion.”

for those not familiar (assuming most), Hawktail is Paul Kowert and Brittany Haas’s band. Paul is the bassist for Punch Brothers and Brittany is a frequent fiddle player on Live From Here (she was also ina band with Margaret Glaspy with Rachael Price and Bridget Kearney of Lake Street Dive). Hell, Chris Eldridge produced this. So now you know why I know who they are. They’re very awesome. Bluegrass with a touch of jazz and classical.
