MoFi UltraDeck / StudioDeck Owners and those interested

Need a little advice . I was looking for a basic headphone amp so I can again use my very old Yamaha Orthodynamic HP-1 headphones .

At this point I have no headphone connection .The Conrad Johnson repair outlet in Montreal Canada said that I can connect a headphone amp to my CJ preamp through the tape output . If I play a cd or record , I select it as a source and the signal will be automatically sent to the tape output thus to the headphone amp /headphones . If I do not turn on the power amp , the volume control on the headphone amp controls volume on the headphone.

I was looking at the Monolith Liquid Spark Headphone Amplifier , Atom AMP 2 or iFi Audio ZEN Air Can High-Resolution Headphone Amplifier. Just wondering if anyone has experience with these or similar headphone amps . Since I already have a DAC , don't need another one .

What's Going On Up There- The Headphone Thread

I have the same thing, front feet seem to be spring loaded, while back feet seem set, I always thought it was "by design" to support the weight of the open lid... so it's not?
The rear legs have the same piston action, just thicker “feet”.

Mine has gone back to doing the same thing. Even not keeping the dust cover hinged.

Funny thing is, if I put the old ones back on….they hold for maybe a day beforebottoning out. Then put the replacements back on and they hold for similar time.

So maybe they’re not “bad” as much as under rated for the weight of the back side. Thinking of reversing them. Thicker feet means less travel to the piston….obviously the back is heavier….maybe more play would keep them floating.

Unrelated note….put on a AT 750SH….holy crap this is bright. Even with BJC+Cardas arm wire.

I don't believe such a program exists. I've now talked to two retailers, including the one I bought it from--and MOFI themselves.

I've read about what it's "supposed to be" upthread. Literally nothing official on the internet about.

It's too bad I wanted to try the MasterTracker to see if it sounded as full and nice as the UltraTracker but with a longer life span....

Seem to have some sticky stuff that leaked out of my tonearm lifter. Assuming it’s the dampening fluid (?). Any recs on where to buy some for replacement and how to add it?

I haven't done it either but it is (was) real. On Page 50 of this thread I posted a few years back about emails from a rep from Mofi telling me about it. It may have been my work computer but I'll have a look for you for a contact point.

Also found these guys in Europe who seem to do the exchange...

It certainly did at one point, and MusicDirect supported it.

I haven't used many headphone amps, but the best I have is a Creek OBH-11. I don't think it's made anymore, and I picked one up for a decent price on eBay. I also paired it with a Behringer 10-band EQ to give me a good range of tweakability.

Call MusicDirect or send them an email. I think the program was 20% of original retail on trade in.

I did bit the bullet and got a Atom amp 2 and Sennheiser HD 600 headphone . It all works and we are getting use to each other . Still prefer to listen to music through my speakers , but my wife no longer yells at me to turn the music down .

Since I got the HD6XX I’ve come to quite enjoy listening over headphones.

How comfortable are these? I have a pair of Grado 325s, and while they sound great the comfort is like a -5/5
They’re comfortable. They clamp a little more firmly than any other head phones I’ve had but they aren’t uncomfortable and all reviews say the clamping gets better with time. I’ve had three pairs of over the ear headphones and these are the most comfortable.

I am still adjusting to by HD600 as I have not used headphones for a long time . I can only have them on for a couple of hours as I get the "Sennheiser clamp ". I store them on an old fence post finial that looks like this , hope it will stretch them out a bit . Proper headphone stand is on its way . Did you compare the HD6XX with the HD600. I was up in the air , but the 40% black friday sale helped me choose .

Naw, not really. It was a bit of an impulse buy. I was kind of over the previous pair disappointing me all the time. I had the Hd 599 SE previously and they sounded decent but were slow and kind of muffled. To add insult to injury, I bought the B&Ws pretty soon after getting the 599s and was floored by them. They are a little more clinical and even as good as they are the 6XX edge them out probably because lossless codec isn’t really lossless. The B&Ws are champs for running around and doing chores and what not.

The 6XX probably would have won out anyhow because I wanted something a little warmer.

I may become addicted to headphones.

My purchase of the HD600 was also a black friday impulse buy as I was going to just use my old Yamaha HP-1 with the new Atom 2 headphone amp and a new extension cable . Being able to move out of the restrictive open air sweet spot of the speaker system is growing on me . I now can sit at my desk and catch up on all the bills and stuff while making my way through old CD,s and records that have not seen the light of day for a very long time . While there is a substantial difference in sound between the two headphones , I was pleasantly surprised at how good the old yamaha HP-1 sounded . Previously they had been used in the workshop attached to a Yamaha R8 receiver , old Panasonic VHS/DVD player and old Audio Sphere Research speakers that would cut out every once in a while to see if I was paying attention. In this set up I never did get a true feel of their sound .

Yeah that was my fear is that maybe the NAD’s headphone amp wasn’t great. The 599s pretty much sounded the same on the marantz cd player I have. But the NAD definitely gets more out of the 6XX. I had to play with gain on the Marantz and that just made things sound unpleasant. So I’m convinced it’s at least serviceable. Makes me itchy for a dedicated headphone amp though. I need a few other things before I can really make that work though, dedicated phono and probably a passive pre.
