Movies

After a 65 hour work week, I was able to stream a few movies last night to get my mind right before more work this weekend. Watched Old Henry and After Yang. Both were really solid and quiet in the right ways.

Had heard good things about After Yang and it didn’t disappoint. While it was certainly A24 as fuck, and more of a mood than a movie, the score, aesthetic and dance scene got me. Also love a 90 minute movie. But I really enjoyed Old Henry. Love me some Tim Blake Nelson and the reveal was wonderfully executed. Honestly, after a week from hell, I missed movies so much

My back's still out, so I've been on muscle relaxers all weekend. It's been too painful to get up and change records very often so that's been limited. But I've been watching some movies. Right now I'm watching Wrath of Man, which I missed last year. It's not the typical Guy Richie fare entirely, but not bad so far.

Loved West Side Story! So I’m coming at this from the perspective of someone who loves the original broadway recording but hasn’t seen the old film. I think as a musical - the songs themselves - it’s one of the best ever. And so to finally see it blown out on this scale was incredible. I knew the story still, but I still found it exciting and affecting. To be honest, when I heard about it a year ago, I thought the worst. I didn’t have faith, and I thought it might be unnecessary. But I walk back all those thoughts. I understand why it was remade, and I think it is incredibly well done and more authentic in a way. The best sequence is America, hands down. That’s what a movie musical number should be.

A special thanks to @avecigrec @D Jilla and others for mentioning this magical artist.

A GREAT documentary and story of Beverly-Glenn Copeland. A Canadian-American trans musician who was rediscovered in the 70's! His 1986 cassette Keyboard Fantasies gained cult status in Japan again in 2015.

Please help spread the word about the documentary and this incredible artist and person.
I hope you are inspired as much as I am!

Thanks for this - definitely a big fan of his and this album in particular. I'll have to check this out, had no idea they did a documentary.
