Movies

I watched The Happening - there's no way this was meant to be a serious movie. The characters are too weird. i think the movie was just meant to be a dark comedy and its just really misunderstood? I thought it was pretty funny at the very least. It wasn't the best movie ever but it was not what I expected & better than I thought it was going to be.

Sadly, M Night Shyamalan sees himself as an auteur and as such can only shoot his movies straight. I agree though, dude has made plenty of unintentionally funny movie scenes. My favorite part of The Happening is The hot dog scene, like WTF is going on?

I think he knows his dialogue/acting comes across as stilted and weird, and it’s part of the deal. At least telling myself that helped me enjoy the shit out of Old.

Yeah agree with everyone one Turning Red. It’s a lot of fun. And much like with Disney’s Encanto, I think it’s so nice to see Pixar making new kinds of movies. Like both have unique ideas that do stray from the expected. Turning Red still may have elements that you’d expect, but there’s still something fresh about it committing to telling a story about a teenage girl and all the growing pains that come with that.

On a completely different note, I watched Jackass Forever last night. It is exactly what I expected it to be. Can’t really criticize it honestly cause it is what it is. That said, by the end I did get this sense of true friendship with the group - and the whole angle of they are just having fun making a movie really elevated it to a kinder place to me - which was the surprising aspect of it.

Now I’m excited to watch The Worst Person In The World. I think I’ll do that today.

Watched Jackass Forever tonight. Chris Pontius is the only one who looks healthy and like he hasn't severely aged.

Maybe drinking animal semen has some weird health benefits 🤢 His silence of the lambs tuck was hilarious. Ehren got it roughest in this one, I think.

You know, I really enjoyed it last year when I didn't have a movie to root against. Sadly, we just finished the Power of the Dog and I have a rooting against interest in now. It's objectively a very good film but man was that deeply unenjoyable two hours. I'd be thrilled if the Oscar voters pulled a Green Book this time and decided to just give a win to the more enjoyable movie to watch even if it may not be a technically better film.

On the bright side our presumptive Oscar winner next year, Jackass Forever, is on streaming
