Rewatching on the heels of Villenuve’s Dune I was surprised how watchable this version is; where the modern version strips away a lot of indecipherable jargon, Lynch leans into it. I think the voiceover is a valid technique; there’s so much shifting perspective and interiority to the book that it is almost crucial.

Just finished my first viewing of Eyes Wide Shut. Disappointed overall. This movie has been slowly receiving a positive revival of late and I feel it may be unjustified.

Just feels very disjointed and aloof in a bad way. Plus, Sidney Pollack is not a good actor and he took me out of all his scenes (which were fairly pivotal).

All in all, this felt like the “adult” version of After Hours.

I adore the Villeneuve movie but there is something kind of pure about the weirdness of the Lynch, despite all the studio interference.

I didn't think it was possible to top the mastery of the first Suicide Squad* to they somehow manage to do it.

*That was sarcasm, btw. The first one was bad.
I loved this one but it was obvious Gunn carried the Marvel formula over to create DC Deadpool essentially. Not mad about it but it’s a dumb rivalry at this point with no winners.

The whole ensemble was killer.

yes, even the various cameos were great. i won’t spoil it, but the one scene with multiple cameos was just wonderfully done (and somewhat bittersweet).

as a wrestling fan, seeing dave bautista have the success he has had while continuing to take on different roles (unlike dwayne johnson, who seems content with being the big action comedy star) has been fun to watch.

I don't know any of them from wrestling, but of the more famous ex-wrestlers, I definitely thing Bautista shows more range and a willingness to take smaller roles (like Blade Runner 2049), and as fun as some of the Rock's and Cena's stuff is, I think funny Bautista is funnier than either of them.
