I have the week off from work (fall break!) and wanted to go see a movie, but there isn't anything interesting playing. Dumb Money...A Haunting In Venice? Are either one of these worth actually going to the theater for?

I did just rewatch The Exorcist, but I have zero interest in the new one. It's taking up so many screens here though.

If it's playing near you, the restoration of Stop Making Sense is great.

i watched dumb money, it was very lame. also watched new exorcist, which i thought was fine? but everyone else seems to hate it too. i still haven't seen haunting in venice, which might end up being the best out of those three, so maybe see that one.

Watched Reptile recently. It was pretty decent. I like the story / plot. Benacio Del Toro was great. JT's acting is i dont know how to describe. The scene where he gets angry at the couple for taking pictures and reenacting his GF's death felt so fake I laughed. Although maybe that was the point as his anger was probably fake since he's the one who wanted his wife dead.. Overall, I enjoyed it, its a bit long but worth it in the end.

I got into the mood for some meaty stuff this week and watched, in no particular order:

The Irishman: great watch across two nights. It happened that I paused it at almost the exact halfway point the first night, and it felt like a somewhat organic overnight intermission. The de-aging stuff was very weird, but also to be honest I watched the whole thing on my phone and that helped me ignore some of it.

Zodiac: A rewatch, but I barely remember my first viewing. Still not sure I agree that it's the masterpiece many people feel that it is. It's fine.

Nobody: love child of A History of Violence and John Wick, but not as good as either one. Not terrible, but I wanted more from the movie it was in the first two acts and less of the movie it devolved into in the final confrontation.

Bullet Train: a fun cotton candy experience that is gone from my mind the second it ends

Mank: Verging on unwatchable? A calamitous experiment IMO

Power of the Dog: I think I need to re-listen to the Blank Check ep about this, because every frame of Kodi Smit-McPhee's performance is SCREAMING that he's autistic, and yet I don't recall the two friends recognizing this characterization. Not sure how I feel about Campion overall, or this movie in particular, but the cut to Smit-McPhee stimming with a hula hoop after being bullied was so unexpected that I laughed out loud and I am still not sure if that was the intended effect.
I feel you on Zodiac; it’s a very good movie and there are specific scenes I think are great, but I just don’t feel so strongly about it.
