Movies

Not a movie, i know. Haven't seen it since 07 or 08. Got the complete series blu-ray set in Sep 2014 but i suck at watching TV shows lol

My friend (RIP) put me on to it back in the day. He was nuts about the show, would quote it constantly and tried to get everyone to watch it.

Obviously you do you, but just in case you missed it, there is a television thread if you wanna discuss further. Though, I doubt anyone is gonna mind you posting TV stuff here.

It really is. I grew up on the original and when I heard about the new one I did audibly groan, and bitch and moan about it...but you know what? I fucking loved it.
I haaaaaaaaaate how much the US parades its military nonsense everywhere, so there was a lot working againast this movie. The story itself honestly is pretty hokey and sily but the action is stunning. They also did well to add "stakes" to everything but sorta fleshing out why this is such a challenging mission. It could have easily fallen on its face if they didn't have all the training and what not take as much run time as it did.

Yeah, it's not to be taken seriously.
Again, I grew up on the original, so it was less a military recruitment tool for me and more "Planes go fast..whooosh!", so it was purely sentimental.

I would say my gripe is they tried to follow a little too much as far as the original went...like did we need another "BROS PLAY SPORTS!" segment? Nah.

You gotta have the homoerotic beach scene

If you're going to watch Top Gun so late in the game, you have to go in with a full appreciation of 80s cheese and a complete disregard for authenticity (like those new age Mig planes are actually F-5s from the 50s).
Also an appreciation for montages set to rousing Kenny Loggins music is an absolute must.
Yeah, you can’t really go into Top Gun with an earnest eye. Which is fine though, because Maverick you can, so it makes a nice 1-2 combo.

Well, I did grow up in the 70s and 80s, so I have appreciation for much of the 80s cheese...but now I feel like if I made it this long I may as well sit it out.

This is my feeling on Titanic at this point, I’ve never seen it and at this point I am probably good. Like ET and Top Gun, Titanic has been a pop culture touch stone over the past few decades in such a way that I could probably give a detailed plot synopsis of the film without ever seeing any of it. I bet you could do the same with Top Gun and/or ET.

Both ET and Top Gun were early cable TV staples and we owned both on VHS so I’ve seen them each multiple times. ET is a better movie overall but Top Gun is a lot more fun.

You are okay not seeing Titanic.
It's way too long and way too little payoff for that time invested.

In fact, I'm going to spoil it for you: The ship sinks.
