Just walked out of I'm Still Here, and saw Nickel Boys last week, so I've officially seen all the best picture noms.

Nickel Boys is incredible, and one of the only movies from last year that feels truly major, like a step forward for the medium. Very affecting and brilliantly made. I'm Still Here is also very good, very apparent why Brazil is so in love with this movie. Honestly wouldn't be at all mad if Fernanda Torres won the big one. Incredible performance.

Final best pic ranking.

1. Nickel Boys (9/10)
2. Anora (8.75/10)
3. The Brutalist (8.5/10)
4. The Substance (8.5/10)
5. I'm Still Here (8/10)

I agree with the Rewatchables guys, Janet and Steve should've gotten together and would've been the better couple.

Gal: "Patty, the No Man's Land scene. What's my motivation?"

Patty: "Alright, so imagine the other side of No Man's Land there are Palestinians who are preventing Israel from taking land they have no right to"

Gal: "Say no more, fam"

They went so far as to ACTUALLY make that a subplot in the second one. Totally deranged.

Glad people eventually realized she sucks in more ways than one.

I may riot if Mikey doesn't win Best Actress. She was phenomenal. This was a tough watch because it didn't feel like something that should be funny yet it was and then it really hits very hard. I don't know if I would put it over The Brutalist but the argument can be made that it does a much more effective job as a film than The Brutalist.

It felt like a realistic take on Pretty Woman. The ending was truly heartbreaking when she finally breaks down. Yes, it was absurd that she thought it was real or had a chance but that's the smart message of this movie. You want to believe the fairy tale will happen for her somehow. Then reality hits and it hits hard and you almost break down with her.

Holy shit, in the last 24hrs, Anora won best picture at critic's choice (its only win there, which has never happened before), best director at director's guild, and best picture at producer's guild. So its best picture potential has skyrocketed. It's been really wild to follow. I thnk Demi Moore is still the fav for actress, but Anora is the current fav for the big one.

I have yet to see most of this year big films but the thing that has annoyed me the most this award season is that The Brutalist is some sort of major comeback for Adrian Brody. I understand he hasn’t been nominated for best actor since winning The Pianist in 2003 but dude has done lots of great work in really good films since, playing up this “comeback story” angle like he’s Travolta in Pulp Fiction seems a bit of a stretch.

He got some good roles in the aughts post-Pianist, but aside from being a Wes Anderson crony, the leading man roles kinda dried up.

Watching Wild at Heart for the first time this evening. Completely deranged. Just delightful. Love to be in a universe where this won a Palme d'Or
That's an all timer for me. I actually haven't watched it in years, but my VHS copy got played like crazy back in the 90s. I should give it a watch again. The car accident scene has stuck with me all this time, that's for sure.
