Music News / Reviews

Well if you needed more proof we are in the upside down, John Mayer did a good thing?
eh, he's got his douchey moments, like using the n-word in an interview*, but he appears to be a genuine person who is really driven by his love of music. if you check out his youtube guitar tutorial videos, he really is a student of the instrument, which is incredibly rare. I am not surprised to see him do stuff like this.

*which came across more as entitled and ignorant and not actually racist

So he thinks UMG cheated to boost Kendrick over him? What fucking sense does that make? They both work for UMG.
At this point he's got to just be blind with anger lashing out over pretty objectively losing this battle (sorry, Drake stans, it's true) because if this case does actually end up going to court I feel like all it's going to do is expose how much Drake himself has benefitted from the same type of practices he's excusing Kendrick of taking part in. While I'm not going to deny that the demand for Drake is there (or at least was until this year, whether or not he recovers remains to be seen), he's no doubt been aided by the major label machine helping to keep his name and face out there and omnipresent at all times. As others have pointed out, back when Drake's album Scorpion came out his face was plastered on the cover of pretty much every single Spotify playlist to promote it. Drake is the absolute last person who should be accusing someone of having their success artificially boosted.

So according to his Twitter, Benjamin Clementine released a new song five days ago, but he apparently didn't make it available to listen to on Qobuz or upload it to YouTube so I guess I'll just have to wait for the album to come out? Not really that upset about it since BC isn't really a singles artist anyways but still seems like a bizarre move from whoever is in charge of distributing his music.

Run don’t walk to listen to (imho) the best post Jane’s Addiction project from any of the members. Deconstruction, Dave and Eric’s immediate post 90s Jane’s project, has never been available for streaming and out of print in any physical formats for many years. No word of a physical release but Dave announced streaming on his instagram. Paid good money for a cd copy a few years back. Happy it gets a wider release and hope interest will push for a physical release!
