New Music Friday!

I felt like it fizzled a bit at the end, but overall quite loved it. Definitely plan to give it more listens over the weekend.
While I respect her, wasn't running to check out her new album but I think it is wonderful that Quelle Chris & Chris Keys have a production credit for the sample of Sudden Death on the last song. Pretty high level placement. Incredible jam if anyone hasn't heard it.

I'll be checking out Black Midi, Beabadoobee, Working Men's Club, Goon and Interpol today. Not terrible excited for any of them. I have Beabadoobee coming my way on LP so hopefully that one is good.
Update:

I've never been a big Black Midi fan since they're not always an easy listen for something I would want to go back and listen to multiple times. However this new one has a lot more song structure and some normal singing here and there.

Goon is a solid little indie rock album. Not quite sure what it compares too, maybe a faster paced Hovvdy album.

Working Men's Club is very Fontaines D.C.'s "Skinty Fia" (the song) in album form. Basically Screamadelica by Primal Scream. I like it.

I don't really recall what all new stuff I have listened to at this point.

Stuff that stood out so far...
I love the new Local Honeys
I like Lizzo, Jazz is Dead, Steve Lacy
I don't mind Interpol, Beadadoobee

I really fucking like the new Black MIDI album.

Today I've got Elf Power, ...Trail of Dead and Interpol on my list, not sure if this is a new music Friday or just a regular Friday many many years ago.... also enjoyed the new DJ Premier EP..... what year is it again?

I finally got to the DJ Premier EP earlier today after only learning of it from your post - what a fantastic 15 minutes! I'm right stoked on that one.

This is a combination of the past two weeks...got my time taken up with ongoing unemployment hell.

🔥
  • Caterina Barbieri - Spirit Exit [I'm being honest with my ears: Caroline Polachek fans should give this one a try]
  • Kali Malone - Living Torch [might be the drone release of the year]
👍
  • A Ghost in Rags - Akarano
  • Altars - Ascetic Reflection
  • black midi - Hellfire [enjoyed this more than Cavalcade for certain. I don't find this avant-prog era of black midi to be to my tastes compared to post-punk black midi]
  • Madeleine Cocolas - Spectral [this was also an enjoyable ambient entry for '22. Thanks, @musicjunkiegreg]
  • Greylotus - Downfall
  • Inhuman Condition - Fearsick [I think @musicjunkiegreg posted about all of the metal releases in this tier. All good, none mindblowing]
  • Katy J Pearson - Sound of the Morning [my friend liked her debut album, so this follow-up is my first honest exposure to her work. Was a great choice to accompany a walk in the park yesterday]
  • Wu-Lu - LOGGERHEAD
🤷‍♂️
  • beabadoobee - Beatopia
  • Viagra Boys - Cave World [they continue to elude me; a few highlights this time around]
👎
  • Lizzo - Special [lost my patience with this one almost immediately; waffled between this and 🤮. "I Love You Bitch" is major cringe]
🤮

None. Very good overall.

I essentially agree with every placement here. I didn't enjoy the Caterina Barbieri album as much as you on my listen (it probably warrants a more focused revisit) and I need to check out the Kali Malone album. Every album in the 👍 Tier belongs there (though I would argue that a few could be in the 🔥Tier on my end). Glad you enjoyed some of the metal records. July has been really metal-heavy with new releases. Your 🤷‍♂️ and 👎 Tiers were also accurate. Beabadoobee just wasn't for me and I can't get into Viagra Boys. And I had to shut off the Lizzo record before finishing it.. We seemed to line up on a lot of albums lately. But, as always, #MusicIsSubjective ✌️ Thanks for sharing!

Edit: I went back and have given the Caterina Barbieri album two more listens and I'm really digging it, moreso than on my initial listen. It made for a moody listen while watching the storm clouds roll in tonight.

Updated to add Carlos Niño & Friends - Extra Presence as I'd somehow missed it earlier.
