New Music Friday!

Got another one I didn't see posted here, the new album from L.S. Dunes. Post punk supergroup with members from Circa Survive, My Chem, Coheed & Cambria, and Thrusday. Only 4 tracks in so far, but this is basically akin to a Saosin album I always wanted before Anthony Green left the band.

I do have to admit, I like the new Springsteen more than I thought I would. The singles left me a little… cold on it. In the context of the album they work better than they did on their own. I am a little curious why he felt the need for a Las Vegas Revue of standards at this point in his career, but it’s a good listen.

Edit: New kid really seems to dig it too.

RADAR 📡 LIST
Friday November 18, 2022

My first radar list of November (and looking like the last big release day of the year, for me..). Some potential AOTY list changers dropping, with Richard Dawson and Weyes Blood! And new-to-me artist Anna Mieke has a new album, from which I've enjoyed the singles. And, allegedly, the final Brockhampton album (who I've been continually losing interest in post their 2017 Saturation trifecta). Should be an interesting Friday!
  • Anna Mieke - Theatre
  • Brockhampton - The Family
  • Richard Dawson - The Ruby Cord
  • Weyes Blood - And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow

Updated my own list to correct the absence of Sunda Arc's "Night Lands" - I've really enjoyed the couple of singles I've heard so far.

This is a pretty big omission in the lists this week:

I knew this one would be exciting for a few folks around here, and I imagine I will wind up checking it out because of the love Billy Strings gets around here, but the two tracks I previewed didn't floor me as much as I'd thought they might.

I mean, he's not the best bluegrass guy out there. His normal fare has a bit more jam bandy quality to it, hence the massive crossover appeal that has mainstreamed him more than your normal bluegrass guy. He can shred for sure, but everyone talks about how fast he plays and well, he ain't that fast. I really enjoyed his last album, Renewal, a lot and recommend it highly. I have a copy of this arriving tomorrow. The singles were just kind of average bluegrass so I can see why they didn't light your fire.

The story of this album is sure to play well at the grammys next year.

I think this video does a good job all the way around of explaining why he's hit the zeitgeist and why the conservative fans aren't impressed (although the conservative fans hate everything new/progressive and make no sense because bluegrass itself was a progressive movement from old timey music):
