I think this video does a good job all the way around of explaining why he's hit the zeitgeist and why the conservative fans aren't impressed (although the conservative fans hate everything new/progressive and make no sense because bluegrass itself was a progressive movement from old timey music):

I should like him but I have yet to hear a song/performance that makes me think the hype is warranted. He’s good but for me the songs are missing. Who knows, it will probably click at some point but I am not there yet.

It's a damn lot to try and keep track of everybody's playlists. Hell, every week I find at least 2 glaring omissions in my own.

The new Weyes Blood is gorgeous, as expected. Cannot wait for the vinyl to come in. I've already streamed to it multiple times. I slept on Titanic Rising when it came out, but have since listened to it and loved it. I almost wanna say the new one is even better?

Only got about halfway through while cooking dinner, but I enjoyed what I heard way more than I expected to.

About that Billy Strings, it benefits greatly from being played over the hi-fi as opposed to streaming. Pressing is above average but I’m guessing the mastering is on point. I like it quite a bit. It’s not gonna come close to my top ten, but it is very enjoyable.
