New Music Friday!

Didn’t have the same magic for me. I think I listened to it once and never went back to it again.

It was my first time hearing him and I immediately put it right back in at the beginning when the first play ended. THEN went and found an in-studio performance with our national radio broadcaster. The writing is brilliant, and having the whole album come together over a few listens was a delight!

the song sequencing and flow of that album is impeccable IMO. "Try Again" flowing right into "Fire Truck" is *chefs kiss*. I love when albums do like (See: Laura Marling's "Once I Was An Eagle")

Was really looking forward to hearing the new Yo La Tengo and was not disappointed, fantastic record!
Yup it’s excellent. Bands like YLT and Guided By Voices just overtake giant chunks of my record collection. I am probably gonna pick this up today and it will be my 9th YLT record. I keep telling myself I don’t need 9 albums by a single band but their music is excellent and diverse in a way that I will just keep adding them.

I'd say that album was hugely responsible for kickstarting my "old man, new music" phase of the past couple of years. I don't recall what led to me putting it on, but it was definitely something outside of my wheelhouse and made me realize I should reconsider my wheelhouse.

Interesting, I would have bet my life I have more Mountain Goats records than anyone else, but The National's CT club in recent years has pushed them over. However.... 41 items in my wantlist. If John wants to ever repress some older stuff he'd make A LOT of money off me.
I am genuinely curious what 5 National albums I am missing.

I have their studio discography all the CT albums, and the RSD stuff and the Cherry Tree and Virginia EP’s.

I didn’t buy the overpriced book, or the live boxset were they play the same song for like 17 hours straight, and I don’t have the Day of The Dead Boxset. So that is probably 3 of them.

Are the other two singles?

I was shocked that I have their S/T album since I completely forgot about that half & half pressing from 2021.

I have all of them now, two copies of Boxer, 2 copies of TWFM, 3 copies of High Violet which I don't need dupes of them but I was buying new pressings a few years back when they came out.

The other two in my wantlist are that A Lot of Sorrow box which is going for a ridiculous amount of money. It was fairly cheap and even less than MSRP about 5 years ago but I was stingy back then. The second is that live show from Forest Hills with an art book. If someone wants to unload it for cheap I'd buy it, but $150 MSRP to begin with is too much IMO for what you get.
