New Music Friday!

That last song was especially wonderful

I made this exact comment in the profile post section and then @wokeupnew and I had a back and forth in comments about our favorite Yo La Tengo closing songs. They have a history of finishing albums with amazing tracks, so here's a list we compiled of favorites in case you want to check them out. Here's a playlist if you spotify:

Take Care (my fav)
Blue Line Swinger
My Little Corner of the World
Night Falls on Hoboken
I Heard You Looking (wokeupnew's fav)
Before We Run
The Story of Yo La Tango

… and now add Miles Away

Really enjoying the new Black Belt Eagle Scout album. It seems to have a higher number of softer songs than their previous two albums, so it feels like it will be a great addition to my Sunday Morning records. That said, the opening track "My Blood Runs Through This Land" and the closer "Don't Give Up" ratchet up the intensity, making for heavy bookends. Another heavy song "Understanding" is only a couple minutes long, but I just know KP and bandmates will blow the sucker out live for a couple extra minutes! As for the softer tracks, Salmon Stinta is a real standout and features a duet with Phil Elverum.

The new Kelela might have to take time for me to fully absorb. On the one hand, from a pure sonic standpoint it is gorgeous. The production work and little bits of texture mesh with her incredible voice super well. But it’s a pretty long listen and it’s hard to wrap my head around each song individually. That’s often the case with first listens for me though, so I’m hoping to keep coming back and hearing all the details I’m missing. It does successfully conjure up a physically dark, pulsing atmosphere though.

This is very possible 😂😳🙈

When you google RBF it’s not what I thought. Or it could have been a “really big fan” which doesn’t make a lot of sense to acronym it haha

To be clear, I was right there with you and my reference was tongue-in-cheek. I can’t keep up with these. It took me forever to figure out why everyone is saying “Boom boom” all the time.
