New Music Friday!

I do like the new Daughter, but I feel it's going to take some time. Some songs do really stand out to me, but I gotta digest it more.

Wednesday, I mean I didn't really know what to expect, but this album is pretty crazy good. I guess Bull Believer must have been a single? But that song really blew me away on my first listen through.

This Wednesday album is reminding me a lot of Car Seat Headrest in their popularity rise from almost obscurity. Rat Saw God is their Teens of Denial, and Twin Plagues is their Twin Fantasy. "Bull Believer" is "Vincent" and "Chosen to Deserve" is their "Drunk Drivers / Killer Whales"

I didn't stretch before this reach but just some thoughts while listening to this album and seeing the acclaim pour in today.

You mean Teens of Denial? Interesting. I think Teens of Denial was much larger in scope in some ways, but the parallel of a more under the radar band getting much more acclaim is there. It does feel like a potentially huge indie guitar rock album, which we haven’t quite heard since Teens of Denial. Or am I not thinking of something?

YES lol. I just edited. My mistake. I get those two confused because of the similar names. Teens of Denial.

I agree that this Wednesday album that is a straightforward indie rock album and Teens of Denial was a straigtforward indie rock album. I'm trying to think of the last straigtforward indie rock album that was universally acclaimed maybe the first Snail Mail album? Kiwi Jr's Cooler Returns from 2021 was as a straigtforward indie rock as you can get, but it wasn't as popular as Snail Mail or CSH. What this means is that people really want guitar driven indie rock that doesn't reinvent the wheel, as long as it's done well.

TBH, Wednesday weren’t on my radar at all until MJ’s solo album (which was one of my faves from last year). I need a bit more time to digest the new one but I preferred Boat Songs to both Wednesday’s prior releases so in that way it’s a bit different.

Hoping this one gets a vinyl release. Heard a rec on the Indiecast pod today and listened through a few times. RIYL MJ Lenderman, Bonnie Prince Billy, Jason Molina and bands in that arena.

I am getting a bit of smog/Bill Callahan too his voice isn't as deep but it has a similar timbre. Maybe Smog crossed with Nick Drake. Regardless, Its quite good. Great recommendation.
