New Music Friday!

The sadness is for missing the show... so glad to hear someone else knows that record! It kind of got lost with the years - I don't think it's on streaming so it doesn't help.

That show is one of those nights I remember well because it was completely unexpected. We were out to shoot some pool and I saw one of the greatest turntablists of all time do his thing from a few feet away. I could see his hands move and my mind just couldn't compute how those sounds were coming out.

The emcee, Blu Rum13, is also in the extremely international group One Self with DJ Vadim and Yarah Bravo, which is also great stuff.

Kid Koala is here as part of Ska Fest this summer, opening for Brother Ali (neither of whom are very Ska at all!) but tickets are a bit more than I'd like to spend, sadly.

Ah cool! I didn't know that! I remember listening to DJ Vadim a lot back during my trip hop / d&b days.

Feist's Multitudes sounds pretty much as I assumed it would. It's mostly a very quiet listen with the highlight being her voice and the way she layers it and strips it down. The tracks that are doing a bit more instrumentally are also pretty good, but they haven't totally wowed me. I wound up not pre-ordering this one on vinyl cause the cost of it was absurd. I'll keep streaming to see how it grows. I feel it might actually be quite a good record if I give it time. Speaking of that, that new Daughter record has really grown on me. I love it so much more now a week later. Can't wait to get my vinyl copy - which is taking a while.

I also listened to the new Tallest Man On Earth yesterday. I haven't fully loved one of his records in a while, but they're never bad. Like everything he does is pleasant, but I have fallen out of feeling like listening to his new albums are urgent for me. I never even listened to the one from 2019. But the new one was a nice listen, especially for the morning. It did have a couple of songs that really jumped out at me. But similar to Feist, I need a closer listen to it. Maybe I'm way off base here, but I wanted a bit more movement in the guitar playing - like he used to have these faster paced songs where there was just so much energy in how he played the guitar. This one felt softer or something- of course that's just one listen.
