Hoping this one gets a vinyl release. Heard a rec on the Indiecast pod today and listened through a few times. RIYL MJ Lenderman, Bonnie Prince Billy, Jason Molina and bands in that arena.

I am getting a bit of smog/Bill Callahan too his voice isn't as deep but it has a similar timbre. Maybe Smog crossed with Nick Drake. Regardless, Its quite good. Great recommendation.
Have predictably been enjoying this. Read your comparison, and then had to double check I wasn't hallucinating when he sings about "drinking at the dam."

LOVING IT!!

The new Kid Koala confirmed my suspicion that it was perhaps foolish to listen to the "singles" - he's an album artist for sure, and I quite enjoyed the new one - not my favourite of his but I look forward to spending more time with it.

Also really enjoyed the Grandbrothers album.

Kid Koala used to play with this Montreal funk band named Bullfrog. They released this one album in 2001 that's quite great - the turntableism gives it a pretty cool edge. I actually have a copy in my boxes - I should dig it out. Anyway, what I wanted to say is that they would play in small venues - like bars. I inadvertently saw them at big pool hall of all places. They were playing at the same level as the audience and I was able to get close enough to see Kid Koala do his thing from maybe 10 feet away. The magic that guy could do with a turntable! That trumpet song he does is insane.

I absolutely love that album. My biggest regret of my early twenties was giving in to anxiety/burnout and NOT going to see Bullfrog (for free!! I HAD A FREE TICKET 😠) at the Vancouver Jazz Festival.

The sadness is for missing the show... so glad to hear someone else knows that record! It kind of got lost with the years - I don't think it's on streaming so it doesn't help.

That show is one of those nights I remember well because it was completely unexpected. We were out to shoot some pool and I saw one of the greatest turntablists of all time do his thing from a few feet away. I could see his hands move and my mind just couldn't compute how those sounds were coming out.
