New Music Friday!

Alright, starting to get into a rhythm now just before the workweek. 😂

Bop. Alas, it runs out of steam quick.

Sooooo I had to listen because I loved Jaguar. I also found it underwhelming as the album went on. I was really digging Smoke but you are right, it gets pedestrian really quickly. Not bad but I am relistening to Jaguar, and it’s just so much better than Jaguar 2.

The album I really love this week is Hiss Golden Messenger's Jump For Joy. It feels like a bit of closure on what he's been doing since Heart Like a Levee. Like a cycle is done. I don't know that it is intentional but it feels that way. It's a particularly sweet way to conclude it given that beginning with Hallelujah Anyhow there had a been a certain amount of desperation in his work - that he couldn't believe shit was just getting this bad.

If like the indie rock/alt country type stuff, this is pretty good:

Indeed, was coming on here to add Ratboys to @musicjunkiegreg rec list. This is a great album, all the way through. Nice mix of tracks. Like Lee said, might not be your thing, but that said, I don't usually listen to too much music like Ratboys, and I'm loving it.

I have also been disappointed with a bunch of August releases. I had high hopes for the Margaret Glaspy, but my feelings on it are kinda like those of you disappointed by Owusu.

I guess it's the Ratboys and then The Clientele before that that I can say I'm really enjoying of late. Also, if you enjoy shoegaze, I've been enjoying the new Film School album from last Friday, but not sure if it'll keep growing on me, or drop off the radar.

Full disclosure, I haven't spent time yet with jaime branch.

I love the Glaspy record. Like a lot.

Thanks for the rec! I'll try to give it a go this evening ✌️

I'll need a couple more listens before I really know how I feel about it, but the new Old Crow Medicine Show is better than Paint This Town. However, while it's fun, it's still not... them. They haven't really been the same since Volunteers. They aren't bad, just... I don't know... I think Secor takes himself a bit seriously and now that there are no other founding members left... it just isn't as raucous as I want them to be. Live they still rule and the two live releases they put out on Columbia (50 Years... and At the Ryman) are great.

Came in here to praise the new ratboys album. Not sure it will be in my top five for the year, but it will almost certainly be in the top five in terms of plays.

Probably my favorite band over the past decade or so. Feel like this one flew under the radar a bit, but I agree it’s great as expected. MC Taylor is probably the most consistent artist I can think of considering how prolific he is.

Friday Sept 1st release radar is an easy one for me:

Slowdive - Everything is Alive (shoegaze)

… and I'll be prob have it on repeat until the following Friday when the posthumous Sparklehorse album drops
just realized I have friends visiting this weekend starting Thursday and leaving on Sunday so I won't be able to listen to it until Sunday afternoon at the earliest 😤

It has been particularly bad as of late. I still have not listened to an August release.
This is much better.
So, pardon my delay but I was moving last week so I didn’t get to new releases, but when the physical of Spellling showed up yesterday, I remembered that it existed. I would say that this is a &strong album. Not sure if it’s as amazing as The Turning Wheel, but I’m five songs in and it’s really strong.
