New Music Friday!

So yeah, the new Galaxie 500 comp is expectedly brilliant. I held off pre-ordering it in the hopes that my local would get some in and I could save $10 in shipping. Unfortunately, they didn’t order any. The good news is there are still a few (like single digits) up for sale on Bandcamp.

I also came across a nice write up in the New York Times about the release (gift link below).

Looks as though the release date might actually be 9/27

Hmmmm… maybe that is the physical release?
I saw it listed on the All Music Guide’s New Release email.
Also, I just listened to it in its entirety on Spotify.

That might explain why my local didn’t get any in though. Oh well, I’ll justify the extra $10 through the digital copy Bandcamp provides.

Yeah, I think just physical release. All good.

🚨 RBF 🚨

Just discovered Charlotte Wessels' third solo LP, The Obsession, today. The Dutch singer-songwriter is the ex DELAIN vocalist. Her new album here is a wonderful mix of art pop and symphonic and goth rock. Wessels' vocal range is pretty impressive and fits remarkably well amongst the musicianship. There is a pretty balanced blend of heavy and light on this album. Give this one a try, I feel like there's something for everyone on this one.

So much coming tomorrow … fall releases are always stacked. Knowing my abilities usually don't extend beyond 5 new albums per week I might just have to dig deep this week!!! I feel like I'm an athlete preparing for a big game. I'll prioritize in this order, so apologies to those on bottom in case I don't get to them.

Trace Mountains - Into the Burning Blue
Merce Lemon - Let Me Drive Them Dogs Wild
Alan Sparhawk - White Roses, My God
Efterklang - Things We Have in Common
Mustafa - Dunya
Neva Dinova - Canary
WIlliam Basinski - September 23rd
Naima Bock - Below A Massive Dark Land

I don't recognize any of these names except for Alan Sparhawk and Efterklang 🤷

For a Trace Mountains taste test, check out his track "Cary's Dreams." It's the first track I ever heard of his, and it hooked me immediately. Since then I've followed his work, and seen him live when he comes through Philly.

Merce Lemon is new to me this year, and I haven't yet dug into her previous work from 2017-2020. That said, a single from this album "Will You Do Me A Kindness" caught my ear, and then I've continued listening to other singles from this upcoming album, and really enjoying them.

Figured I'd give guidance on my top two listens at least …

The last Trace Mountain album was great and can be found in bargain bins and well under MSRP on Discog currently.
