New ultrasonic vinyl cleaner in the works: Humminguru

I’m finally almost done with cleaning every record in my collection (almost 4 years since I bought this).

I used a discogs custom field to keep track of this so I know in many cases I forgot but cleaned the same record multiple times.

Anyway I’m assuming, taking into account records I’ve sold and re-cleaned, probably over 1000 albums. Down to the last 50 now.

Those that completed the first pass - How often do you “re-clean” records?
You just start at the beginning again and keep doing it till you die.

If they look dirty or sound fuzzy again.

I feel like if its been ultrasonically cleaned, and it sounds clean when you're playing it, and you're storing it in a non-stock ultrastatic sleeve then you can probs get away with cleaning it once a year or something, once every 10 plays? Idek, I guess most reasonable thing to do is just wait for it to sound dirty lol

It will take me approximately 400 years to play each of my records 10 times.

I simply reclean if I see dust or debris. I run the “quick” cycle if they have been cleaned before.

Yep. All my records have been at least vacuum cleaned, and I've tagged the ones I've run through the Guru in Discogs. I'm not going to bother washing those again unless I see them leaving grime on the stylus.

I’ve just embarked on a playback through all my music collection on physical media. I may die at a grand old age before I finish…
Having done this a few years ago, I decided recently I'd try to do this at the start of each decade. Not sure how many I've got left but seemed like a decent way of listening to everything at least several more times...

Humminuguru owner here. Because I was curious, I bought one of those 6L ultrasonic baths (this one) from eBay and tested.

I use the method that Tergikleen outlines with their product:
  1. Use Spin Clean to give a surface cleaning/prewash.
  2. Fill up the ultrasonic cleaner with Tergikleen / reverse osmosis water at 10 drops/gallon dilution.
  3. De-gas the solution (i.e., run the bath for 10-30 minutes).
  4. Run up to 6 records through the bath at 38 degrees Celsius for 30 minutes.
  5. Rinse off with reverse osmosis filtered water using a plastic garden sprayer.
  6. Wipe down labels and let air dry.
I found that this method gets my records EXTREMELY clean. They look and feel cleaner than my Humminguru method of using G2 and pressing start. Is it noticeable enough to switch me over to this new method? Probably not. The Humminguru is a hundred times more convenient and serviceable with new vinyl. I will probably use the ultrasonic cleaning method with used or old vinyl.

Try using warm water in the Guru.
