New ultrasonic vinyl cleaner in the works: Humminguru

I definitely don’t think it’s something to FOMO over. Eventually everyone who wants one will get one. In all honesty, waiting might be a safer move to see how they hold up long term or if there are any issues that pop up that could be addressed in later batches. But it’s not like they’re limited.
I'm not waiting. Those filthy records aren't going to clean themselves.

Only issue I would really see is the price going up or being tricky to get in a timely manner because of production delays/supply chain issues. But agreed—it’s likely they will continue to produce them if they are successful so I don’t think they would just stop manufacturing them after this round.

Mine is in transit. Due next week. Happy days!

Look forward to getting it. I don't buy a lot of second hand records and will use it to clean new ones and much played ones. On a "local" forum here in Norway most users are very happy with it. Some use it only with distilled water, others with some mixed in isopropylanol (or whatever it's called, don't laugh, I'm a social scientist...). Many of them do report back that it does reduce surface noise, like it's been reported here.

... over on Steve Hoffman forums, however, they are skeptical! It's not ideal and all, but as a social scientist I would like to reply that nothing is ever "ideal", that's the whole point of thinking ideals. But, I didn't reply that to them, I only convey it to this forum, where people are a bit more relaxed and know for a fact that what's important is that it cleans as well as possible (for the price). Oh, and let's not forget about the music :)

I'll give my impressions when I have given it a few runs, I have some records that I'm curious about, before and after.

Ah, I'm really on the fence on this. Up till this morning, I was v much buying it. But I'm wondering if it's going to make a big difference to my African records given a lot of them are beaten up, I've got money issues just now due to a leaky roof, and I'm thinking if it's so popular they'll make more later on so I can pick it up then. FOMO is pretty strong though. A morning of dilemmas...

I can understand both. I KNEW I would want one when they were produced and just took my chances. I'll let you know on the results, but for really beat up records, you would have to get some feedback from others...

Cheers. Also slightly amused by that Norwegian forum and their homemade cleaning solutions using the leftover water from the tumbledryer and Zalo washing up liquid! I feel like if I pay a decent amount for a cleaner, I could pay a little bit for distilled water and a proper surfactant.

Hahaha! De-Ionized water is also fine though by the way. It’s just a different process of removing the minerals. I find it much easier and cheaper to buy here because Halfords sell it as car battery top up water. May be the same in auto stores in Norway too?

While a pre order might sell out initially don’t FOMO friends. The sales company and the manufacturer are one and the same, they own the factory so as long as they have interest they will keep making it, you just might have to wait longer!

I have been using the "distilled" water from my tumble drier for years for my squeakyclean RCM works a treat mixed with 20% isopropyl alcohol, I will still be using the RCM for second hand records to get the gunk off first

Yes, I buy battery water here - 4 quid for 5 litres - for my Okki Nokki currently. Obviously the ease of use is a big plus for HG. But I'm with you on FOMO - if this is popular (as seems pretty certain) there'll keep producing it, and hopefully improving it too...

I only cleaned two records so far, ill ty more tonight.

Any chance theyll make another adapter so i can clean this?

can't you get some shampoo from the vets for that

eeee

Apparently dryer water is effectively distilled, as long as the lines are clean. It’s not a bad idea!

I think it's great that it works. But having disappeared down a rabbit hole on the best way to clean records, I'm just amused by some of the stuff - a guy on one forum had three machines - one for a pre-clean, then an ultrasonic, then a vaccuum one to rinse. I could just imagine my girlfriend's face if I suggested that set-up...
