New ultrasonic vinyl cleaner in the works: Humminguru

Those of you who have the 7/10in adaptors, are these cleaning as well as a regular lp? How are you dealing with 7in that have the large spindle hole?

It makes no difference. The adapter doesn’t grip by the spindle hole in any way. It grabs the record from the outside so it’s inside a bigger plastic disc to make it fit into the 12” rollers on the outside of the machine

No issue with the spindle hole as the adapters grip the outside edge of the smaller records. My problem has been more that to clean all the way to the label of 7s you need to fill the basin right up and as @Joe Mac says it can then overflow. I feel like I had a special problem as I had water absolutely gushing out, but fortunately I haven't had that recently. I'm not convinced that it cleans 7s as well as LPs but that's just a gut feeling.

I paid of my credit card to grab one last night but the shop doesn’t take Discover 😂 I don’t have enough spending money since I used that to pay off my card. Sooo I just flat out buy it with my debit card when I get paid later this week or wait for the Visa card I applied for to show up. Seems to be a pre order so hopefully it doesn’t sell out.

So, becuase I'm lazy and don't want to go back through 80 pages of the thread, what's the general summary after a few months use? Is it worth it? Is it reliable, quiet, does it get rid of that grit that the vacuum just won't shift?

This reminded me of "The Gift of the Magi Indian Giver" by Steve Martin

Carolyn wanted so much to give Roger something nice for Christmas, but they didn't have much money, and they had to spend every last cent on candy for the baby. She walked down the icy streets and peered into shop windows.

"Roger is so proud of his shinbones. If only I could find some way to get money to buy shinbone polish."

Just then, a sign caught her eye. "Cuticles bought and sold." Many people had told Carolyn of her beautiful cuticles, and Roger was especially proud of them, but she thought, "This is the way I could buy Roger the shinbone polish!" And she rushed into the store.

Later at home, she waited anxiously as Roger came up the steps of their flat. He opened the door and wobbled over to the fireplace, suspiciously holding one arm behind his back.

"Merry Christmas!" they both said, almost simultaneously. Roger spoke. "Hey, Nutsy, I got you a little something for Christmas." "Me too," said Carolyn, and they exchanged packages. Carolyn hurriedly opened her package staring in disbelief. "Cuticle Frames?! But Roger, I sold my cuticles so I could afford to buy you some shinbone polish!" "Shinbone polish!" said Roger, "I sold my shinbones to buy you the cuticle frames!" Roger wobbled over to her. "Well, I'll be hog-tied," said Carolyn. "You will? Oh, boy!" said Roger. And it turned out to be a great Christmas after all.

it is NOT quiet. mine regularly has a high-pitched squeak for the entirety of the wash cycle. i cannot sit in the same room when its cleaning as it hurts my ears, even with music on. so for now, during the day I have it set up in a bedroom and I go in and out throughout the day to swap records.

i have a vacuum machine as well. i much prefer the HG though. fill it with water, put the record in, press a button and walk away. and i have noticed a difference in dynamics on some records after using it, which i never really did with the vacuum cleaner. it's also MUCH smaller and lighter than my vacuum cleaner which means I use it more and stow it away/bring it back out more often.

Mine sounded good but had a little surface noise and some pops and clicks and were pretty much eliminated after I ran it through the humminguru. Not sure what issues you had with yours! I know there were some overall pressing issues though
I finally got around to cleaning and spinning this and I didn't notice any distracting noise!

I also have changed styluses but would be surprised if moving to shibata helped in that regard.

I've noticed this on several of my disappointingly noisy pressings. Some have improved dramatically, like this one, some just considerably better. Obviiusly some just damaged or bad presses that nothing will fix though.

Shame about the noise, but I'm very tempted. Even if it's just to prove to myself I should stop trying to clean those records again that I keep on thinking, one more clean & it'll be fine.

maybe it's just something with my machine but i'm a bit surprised it hasn't been an issue for most other people. some people said it could also just be a frequency that affects certain peoples' ears more. its not a huge issue for me since i can just put it in another room and close the door but man....that noise is really unpleasant. don't know how some people can be spinning a record and enjoying it while cleaning a record in the same room.

the machine itself is great otherwise and cleans well. i've done about 300 LPs now at least and haven't noticed any other issues.

300 lps is good going. I think I'm convinced

Yeah, I don't really notice it much. I could have mine in the same room with music playing and it wouldn't bother me.

Yes, yes, not bad, yes. Like @MikeH, I have noticed differences in dynamics/clarity, which I'd never noticed with vacuum cleaning. Mine is not obnoxiously loud. I have it in a room off my living room with a door I can close and it's then silent from the living room. If cleaning your records is (or you'd like it to be) an important part of your collecting, I can't think of a single reason not to make this investment. And because the nature of the "labor" commitment is different (fill basin, place record, push buttons, walk away....come back, put record away, refill basin, etc), I'm cleaning more often, and cleaning more pieces per session than ever before. I've stated before in this thread this is one of the very best upgrades I've ever made.

I've cleaned about 400 records to date.

Do any of you reuse the water/surfactant solution for x number of records or use fresh for each record cleaned?
i reuse it probably for 30-40 records or so. i need to get better at emptying it when not in use though, but i just kinda keep the water in there and top up as needed.

Definitely re-use, for the full cleaning session. I've developed my own system for filtering the water when I pour it back into the cleaning basin, so even by the end of a session the water is pretty clean.

I'm convinced. I'll definitely get one. But after viewing my record spend / credit card balance will wait until next month :)
