October 2020 Challenge Thread: Let’s Get Weird

Day 6 - Major label debuts.
Now I could follow @Fleetwood-Matts lead but for now, here is a picture of my wall.
Today I’ve spun Harvest, Nick Cave and Flying Lotus (still cant sit with Cosmo-might be my last try)

Edit: Ok so I feel bad about ignoring today’s rules. So I did google and found Aphex’s Selected Ambient Works II was considered major label debut ....and I had the CD nearby. So I’ve placed it on my tt for aesthetics and now playing to the delight of my family before bedtime.....image.jpg

Spin an artist’s first album for a major recording label

Elliott Smith - XO

Smith made the leap to the majors, taking songs every bit at beautiful and well-crafted as his sparser Kill Rock Stars albums and giving them the lush arrangements that a big-label budget afforded him. The result is an album that blew my teenage mind.

Day 6 | Major Label Debut
The Game - The Documentary
I think this is one of the best produced albums ever. Dr. Dre has production credits on a little less than half of the album’s tracks, and hands off the rest to some of the biggest producers at the time. From Scott Storch’s haunting keys to Timbaland’s stuttering synths to Hi-Tek’s smooth bass to Just Blaze’s horns and everything in between, they all bring their signature sounds to each track. Yet somehow, it all sounds so cohesive. From start to finish, it sounds incredible and classic.

Spin an LP that predominantly features brass or woodwind instrumentation

I played the trombone half way through high school but gave it up to play more sports.
