October 2020 Challenge Thread: Let’s Get Weird

Day 10: Live From New York It’s Saturday Night!
Spin an artist that has been featured on SNL (bonus points if you include the performance clip in your post)

Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not

I thought this performance of A Certain Romance was super cool as I watched it live when I was 17.

Day 12 B&W covers
Bobbi Humphrey Blacks and Blues

There was a Blue Note 80 sale and I asked our good friends over in the N&G Jazz forums for some recommendations and this one came up by a few members, so I gave it a listen and it’s fantastic.Plus my wife was a fluter when I met her so I thought she would dig it too.

I have some catching up to do...

Day 09: Soul Sister

Joe Henderson - The Elements

Joe Henderson teams up with spiritual goddess Alice Coltrane for a rather experimental venture, exploring sounds from all over the world. It's no surprise that the song titles are "Fire," "Air," "Water," and "Earth." I thought about including this in my personal N&G top 50, but I decided to leave this off, as I believe jazz albums are deserving of their own list.

Day 06: Major Label Debut
Spin an artist’s first album for a major recording label

Son House ‎– Father Of The Delta Blues: The Complete 1965 Sessions

I'm sure many of you already know the story, but for those that don't it is worth reading.

tl:dr Son House's first full album was published when he was about 63 years old on Columbia label.

Day 10: Live From New York It’s Saturday Night!

Billie Eilish - WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?

Nearly 1.5 years later, I remain deeply connected to this one. An album that I'm certain will push the envelope and be a paradigm-shifter for pop to come in the new decade.

She was lovely here, too:

Father John Misty - Pure Comedy

Mr. Tillman continuing the wild ride that was the PC album cycle with an SNL performance and premier of the song "Total Entertainment Forever" felt so perfect for him. Singing "Bedding Taylor Swift every night inside the Oculus Rift" live on tv is so ballsy and I respect it so much

Sadly cant find the performance on YouTube
