Day 11 - Songs about Rain ☔

Teodross Avery - After The Rain: A Night For Coltrane (Tompkins Square, 2019)

This is a fantastic album. I was totally unaware of Teodross Avery until @Mr Moore mentioned him a while ago (might have even been on the old forum?). I picked this album up on a whim and im glad I did as its fantastic. Quite the appropriate title for today's challenge as well!

Day 09: Soul Sister (make-up)
Sister Rosetta Tharp died on this date 47 years ago. Spin something spiritual

Sigur Rós - Takk

I was raised in a religion with a focus on "feeling the Spirit," and I was taught that my righteousness and obedience would lead me to having great spiritual experiences. I did everything I was supposed to, going to the temple, attending a church university, and even spending two years of my life as a missionary on another continent. I never rebelled. My secret was that, no matter how hard I tried, no matter how many hours I prayed, I never felt anything. Just a big blank nothingness.

The thing I couldn't tell anyone is that when I listened to some music- and none of it church music- I felt what I imagine people feel during their religious experiences. When I saw Sigur Rós live, on their tour for this album with Amiina playing strings, it was rapturous, a communion wrought through sound and rhythm and beauty. For someone like me, that may be as spiritual as it gets.

What a great pick! I need to listen to this again sometime soon!

Day 11. Rainy vibes.

I was totally planning to play Led Zeppelin In Through the Out Door today for the best drum track in rock with “Fool in the Rain” but time constraints had me pick a shorter album. So instead I’m going with the track “it will follow the rain” from

Day 11 | Song About Rain
Oh Wonder - The Rain (from S/T album)

This album is a nice slice of synth-pop. There’s a handful of break-up songs on the album, including this song, “The Rain”. When I went through a break-up a few years ago, I’d put these on my playlist when I just wanted to wallow and mope. The whole album is actually a pretty good one to play when it’s gloomy & rainy outside.

If I recall the story correctly Fear were booked to perform at John Belushi’s request and supposedly they caused over $20k of damage to the set. Also, we were leaving Lee Ving for @LeeVing 😉

Day 12: Black & White

Jay-Z ‎– The Black Album (Roc-A-Fella Records, 2003 First Pressing)

This is the first album that came to mind for today's challenge. Its been a while since I last spun this, but its a fantastic one for sure. Perhaps one of my favourite albums by Jay-Z.
