That Pot Smoker's song is a trip. My friend's dad had that album, Velvet Gloves and Spit, so we discovered it in high school. Most of it is just horrific sordid back alley confessions from people about shooting crystal meth into their spines and shit like that. Then it hops back into this really upbeat Barney & Friends style chorus.

I saw him at Key Arena in Seattle and he was playing "in the round" so the stage was revolving like a lazy Susan. Neil was in the middle and the little lower sections around the "sides" where chips or carrot sticks might be, had band members in it. A bassist or a backup singer in a renaissance dress would slowly rotate around.

I felt pretty hysterical in that fiasco. By the end, I was yelling things like "I kneel for Neil!" and "I'm a Neil Diamond in the rough."

And this one older couple had a son in his late teens/early 20s who had Down syndrome and was obsessed with Neil Diamond. They would go stay at this hotel like every other month since they were retired, so we ran into them a few times over the years there. Their son was a really nice guy but would carry around a boombox blasting Neil Diamond, and often singing Neil Diamond the whole time. My friends and I would invite him to come hang out with us because he was crazy strong and would wrap us in a hammock like a burrito and just spin us around and around in it at breakneck speeds laughing his ass off.

One of the things I really like about it. It's honestly why the Butthead troll dude was just such bullshit with the adolescent "i'm going to use the naughty words i heard on fox" schtick. You get the trifecta of posts you quoted, but then you also get John Malkovich's sincere advice about finding yourself and taking new roads after Serious Life Events, but also Mather's like "sure it's a used autopsy table, perfect for the bar in my murderlounge, but is it used enough?".

I’d be into this at $10 but, unfortunately, if Discogs and its reviews are accurate, looks like there were separate US and Europe releases with different mastering based on runouts and pressing plants. Europe version from Optimal sounds great, and the US version sounds very much not great.
