Party up moodge, it’s the June 2023 Vinyl Challenge!!

Day 10
Play a puzzle

This one turned out harder than I thought. I was thinking about it last night.
David Bowie - hours...
A puzzle is a game. David was involved in a doing a soundtrack for a video game in the late 90s called Omikron: The Nomad Soul. Several of those songs also ended up on hours..., including "New Angels of Promise" which was originally called "Omikron"

I have this one!
And I didn't get it from you!
And I enjoy it more than many seem to!

Day 9
‘Heroes’/Hansa Studio - Though the albums Low, ‘Heroes’ and Lodger are called the “Berlin Trilogy” only ‘Heroes’ was recored at the famous Hansa studio.
Play an album that has taken on a mythology all of its own.

Page's heroin use, Plant's grief, Bonzo's alcohol binges...and JPJ just doing his thing, and a lot of it. It still ended up being a decent album, although it has Zep's worst song ever on it too.

Day 10
Isolar I and II were the names of the StationToStation and Stage tours. It also is an anagram of sailor, which was Bowie’s screen name on BowieNet.
Play a puzzle.

New Order "Power Corruption And Lies" (1983 Factory)
Peter Saville designed a color-coded cypher that was used on the sleeves of PC&L and the singles for Blue Monday and Confusion.

IMG_0147.JPG

The key to the cypher is on the back cover ("A" and "1" are at the top).
IMG_0143.JPG

The color code on the top right of the front of the sleeve says "FACT 75", the catalogue number for the release.

IMG_0144.JPG

The inner-sleeve has a code on each side. It's pretty basic. One side says "New Order Power"

IMG_0145.JPG

And the other says "CORRUPTION AND LIES".

Day 10 - Puzzles

Kendrick Lamar - DAMN

I remember the internet spent like a week trying to solve the puzzle of a second Kendrick album that never existed. Playing the album backwards and listening to every other track forward and then back was apparently all clues that a new album NATION was gonna come out. First it was supposed to be 3 days later and then a week later and so on

Day 10 - Part 2...
Isolar I and II were the names of the StationToStation and Stage tours. It also is an anagram of sailor, which was Bowie’s screen name on BowieNet.
Play a puzzle.

Gonna add a second one here, since it just came in the post and fits the prompt perfectly.

Gravity Falls soundtrack came in "Decoder Red" vinyl that lets you see hidden messages on the sleeves.

Kings Go Forth "The Outsiders Are Back" - ok not necessarily the album but the cover art or more so the cover artist! It's by a gentleman who calls himself Mingering Mike, he's a fictional soul singer and his story is fascinating Mingering Mike - Wikipedia
Also this book is cool, collects all his art:

Day 11
The Jean Genie – is a song about about Iggy Pop. Like many of the best Bowie songs it’s a ‘portrait’ of someone who simply caught his eye
Play a song about another musician

Danko / Manuel is still one of my favorite Isbell tunes.

Can you hear that singing, sounds like gold?
Maybe I can only hear it in my head

Drive~By Truckers ~ The Dirty South

Day 7
Footstompin - not sure how David did not get sued for this song when Fame became a #1 in the US.
Play something that reminds you of a different song or artist

Chapterhouse - Whirlpool

When I first heard the track "Falling Down" the opening riff reminded me of U2's "Mysterious Ways." Turns out both albums came out the same year, but Chapterhouse's came out earlier, I just heard U2's song long before this one (to be fair, 8-year-old me wasn't too hip on the UK shoegaze scene).
